Have you tried changing the compatibility settings to run the game in Windows 95 or 98 mode? To do this you need to right click on the desktop icon for the game, click properties then go to the compatibility tab.

Set Video for Software 3D, choose Full Screen, and disable accelerated audio. See if that works. It does for me, and I'm using WinXP.

One good way to get the M&M games to work properly is to download the Mok's patches. The one for MM7 is located at:
http://strony.aster.pl/mokmtg/mm7_eng_xp.exe
You'll still have to use Windows Compatibility mode, but at least MM7 will work and not encounter error messages. Please submit a reply to let us know if any of these replies assist at all.

I do check the Gamebanshee boards usually every day, although I'll admit that sometimes I don't answer since the thread is usually responded to and I have little of value to add.
I am glad that Mok's patches have made it easy for you to play, and with the M&M GB board gone I expect that future threads on this will continue to decrease.
