when do random items change?

as i'm sure most have figued out many of the items in the game are random. what is less obivious is the drastic difference between some of these items for example - in the hand there are two very good suits of elf-chain that are random.

now the real question is when are these items set. how far back do you have to go to get another choice? or are these numbers locked in at the start of a game?

from what i've tried it looks like the items may "set" whenyou first enter the area but this is pure guess work.

That would be my guess. My comp froze up after I got the random item(a girdle that time) from the Orc Cave near Easthaven and I hadn't saved. When I went through there the second time, I got a Ring of Protection +1 or +2(forgot which).

Its set when you open a container or kill a character. I tested this by saving and reloading before opening a random item container. Try saving before you encounter the orcs in the mill. If you do it often enough the mouthy orc will drop either a wand of trap detection or Glimglam's cloak (though this latter could be an area change thing).

I recall testing it with Maiden Ilmadia's hideout too - after killing her and before opening the container with the +4 sword.

But I could be nuts. :D

Actually, I think it depends on the game. You restart, the random items will be different.

In the orc cave at begining, I got a "Blessed" girdle. Went through another time, no girdle.
