Potion effects in Divine Divinity

I've decided to give Divine Divinity a go, and so far I'm having fun. Just a bit confused as the potions have no descriptions of what they actually do. I know that Restoration restores a percentage of your hitpoints and mana, that health and magic potions restore health and mana and so on, and I assume stamina restores stamina ;) Its then that it gets confusing:

I combined two potions using alchemy and got a shadows potion - what does this actually do?

Also, what do the elixir potions do?

Lastly, there are loads of mushrooms and herbs around that I can click on, but I cannot work out how to actual pick them - I managed to pick the illegal herbs for a side quest. Are only certain patches of herbs and mushrooms pickable, or am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks in advance :)

My best guess on the potion of shadows is that it will cause a Fade From Sight effect if your character uses it. This is basically an invisibility effect that is temporary.

As far as harvesting herbs go, you need to have the Alchemy skill at a certain level and then you should be able to get them. I don't know what the Alchemy skill requirement is, but it may be available after having two points in the skill.

I think you may need a flask.

Ok, thanks :) My alchemy is only at level 1 so I'll try boosting it to level 2 next time I level up.

I still can't figure out what the Elixir potions do though :S I tried drinking one and could figure out if it even did anything at all

You need to have Alchemy level 2 and then drag a bottle over the mushrooms/herbs/whatever. This will get you a potion, with higher skill giving bigger potions.
Check out Video Game Cheats - Video Game Reviews - Video Game Codes - Video Game Web Site - GameFAQs . Maybe they have some info about potions? IIRC, Elixir gives you a bonus to all stats for a while.

it makes you invisible.

BTW. How to make a poison potion? :)

You drag an empty bottle over a vat of poison, IIRC.

That's great. That seems easy enough.

1. do I need some level of alchemy?

2. Or, can I just drag the whole vat of poison and use it for the archer? ;)

BTW. I have another question. What are those potions called purple, green ...?

Those are green potions. Again, IIRC, your level of alchemy determines the strength of the poison. You drag the empty bottle over the vat, and then you drag the potion on your weapon, which gets x charges of poison. I do think you need a skill for this.

Edit: all you need to know is provided in the Divine Divinity section of Gamebanshee, under "Skills".
