Is there a limit to the number of attacks you can have per round? my paladin has 3 attacks, and when i equip something that would give an extra 1/2 attack, i still only get 3 attacks according to the player info screen.

By buffying with lots of spells it's possible. I'm not sure of how fast a person can get but improved haste, timestop and whirlwind are pretty insane for attacks per round.
I think grandmastery is supposed to improve speed but only in fixed games also I think 3 1/2 is the fastest for normal attacks without powering up on spells.
Admitably I don't know much about this area so someone should come and correct me soon enough.

Without bugs or shapeshifting or buffs, the highest number of attacks you can get is five.
On the character screen, the highest number of attacks it will display is ten, however, it is possible to get more than that. You can count your attacks by animations or you can figure them out by keeping track of all of your attack bonuses because after a certain point you make attacks faster than the animation can manage to display. It's quite easy to go over ten attacks, even without the use of the Whirlwind abilities. I think the highest number of attacks per round, without using bugs would be fourteen or fourteen and a half. With bugs it would be around fourty four.

Apparently, the highest number of attacks without using bugs is 18. This should be a Wizard or Cleric with Energy Blades in hand and casted Improved Haste.

Actually, it'd be twenty six. Before I was talking about attacks on a consistent basis, without recasting Energy Blades every time fourty end. Besides, their duration is short and there are better spells to stick in your level seven (for divine casters)/nine (for arcane casters) slots.
