I need help. I have entered this fight a couple times now, but can't seem to do squat. I can eliminate the lizard men easily (Thnxs to my two Rangers with bows) but the Yxu-person keeps summoning too much to handle, and I can't seem to injure her. Any advice? Any spell sugestions, or equipment would be appreciated.
PS. I'm using two Rangers, A Theif, A Mage, and a Cleric.

LOL
The two times that I faced her I put my ranger with the Messenger of Seth and +2 Arrows against her and I had no problems with her. Actually, I was surprised, the first time, that she was worth 46000 XP !
(lmao, could I be more arrogant than this

)
The most horrible opponents (beside Belhifet) were those shadowed goblin marksmen IMHO. I've lost quite a lot of characters back then man; the Severed Hand was for me the most difficult part in the game!

I've only defeated her with my solo Fighter/Mage/Thief. I drew her all the way back to the entrance to that level. This was not planned, though. In actuallity, I was running for my life.

When I returned after resting and prepping, there she was. I started attacking her and she cast Cloudkill on where she was standing. I moved out of the cloudkill and started attacking her with my bow. When her minions came after me, I ran through the Cloudkill to the otherside(Haste got me through nice and quickly). The Cloudkill killed her minions while she charged me. I quickly cast Mirror Image, then started hacking away at her in melee battle. She was dead soon.

I agree. I'm currently in the Severed Hand. Mirror Image does
not last long against those things.

Summoning a few skeletons is handy, though.

I thought the Shadowed Lich/Mage's in the severed hand were particularly nasty i hated the way they would just appear and blast your party with fireballs.
What about those Ettins, at that low a level they are mean.

Burning Skeletons? They were mean. I used to lure them away with a fire-protected individual.
Ettins deal out stacks of damage - I couldn't go toe-to-toe with them and always had to take them out at range.

I tend just to run at them as soon as i can and get them before they set off their spell
The only strategy really

I lure groups around one fighter, and have a burning skele toss a fireball in. Takes out most of the opposition, but hurts a bit...

IMHO for the skeletons "turn undead" is all you need. I had both my paladin and ranger/cleric (fully armored and everything) just stand there turning undead while the other two used long range weap. or magic.
Of course this is only possible with a small party (4 max) and in hard difficulty (preferably insane) in order to jump levels quickly so the spell is usefull.

Burning Skeletons? I don't think I've seen these yet.

I take on 2-3 Ettins at a time in melee combat and haven't had a problem with'em yet. I don't even recieve damage from'em.

The burning skeletons are in the Seldarine Hand.
They die quickly though because their fireballs force you to get em quick, so you may have thought they were just skeletal mages?

The only skeletons I found in the Hand were Armored Skeletons and those ones with scythe blades extending from their arms. Although, there are a few areas on the 3rd floor of the hand that I avoided because I was in a hurry to get to the fourth floor. Still, I don't recall coming across any burning skeletons or skeleton mages.

I'm pretty sure you have to go past them.. Maybe the script for them to appear didn't occur.

I just checked the IWD walkthrough on GB. It's fairly easy to avoid them. When you go up to level 3 of Severed Hand, there are two ways up. One way takes you to where the Goblin Archers, while the other takes you to a battle in which the archers will shoot at you, but can only be reached by ranged weapons. If you go up the one near the archers and head 'southeast,' there are the stairs leading up to level 4 of Severed Hand. As long as you stay out of the 'outer ring' of Severed Hand level 3 at the bottom of the screen and on the left side of the screen, you won't ever see the Burning Skeletons.

The other two levels just have bladed skeletons, armored skeletons, scattered souls, severed souls, and shadow goblins/orcs/etc.

You can indeed avoid them. you may have missed an item or two though.

Possibly, but considering how many items I've had to just leave behind due to lack of room in my inventory(one problem with soloing), I'm not too worried about it. At the time, I was more worried about staying alive.
