When freezing seems more than occasional

Thanks to someone pointing out that after saving, walk around for a bit and even quick travel somewhere before quitting the game. This seems to cut down on the game freezing so often when trying to exit the game.
Now I find that freezing occurs more frequently than I care for while going through different gates or doors, for instance in the Blood Feast Tower. Has anyone else noticed this and what have you done about it if anything?

Could the answer to this question be no?

I found out at another forum that freezing and crashing often occurs from the auto saver that constantly overwrites the same file. This happens when loading a new screen (going through gates, etc). Disabling autosave often cures the problem

With our old computer, the game used to freeze several times a night. Now that we have a new one, the game almost never does. So it is probably mostly related to hardware.

I happened to look in the readme file for Oblivion and a couple of things causes frequent crashing; an old system file has to be renamed, and any HP printer files loaded in memory has to be disabled. Also there's several tweaks for the options that's mentioned in the readme to dramatically improve game performance.
Quite often, the game misinterprets your hardware too high and lowering some things and choosing bloom instead of hdr solves some issues.
I have an intel 3.2 gig processor, 2 gigs ram, nvidia 6800gs/256 meg, etc. so in my case it's not hardware related. It's just that the install set several things too high.
another tidbit; even if you don't have a joystick, it's still enabled in the Oblivion.ini so you have to change the 1 to a 0.

When game freezes ....
I had plenty of game crashes and freezing problems after loading Shivering Isles.
I did a ton of reading and tried all of the recommended solutions without any success.
This was very disappointing since I had completed all of the locations in Oblivion short of very few caves. I also completed Knights of the Nine.
My problems started after completing the first main quest for Sheogorath, but when I tried to return to his palace, I could not enter ... game froze and computer crashed.
Ultimately, I had to bite the bullet, uninstalled everything, wiped out all the saves and Reinstalled Oblivion, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles (in that order) and ONLY THEN did I install any patch (because Shivering Isles comes with up-to-date patches for earlier releases). So I only had ONE PATCH to install.
The downside is that I had to start the whole thing all over again.
I was at 300 hours before getting to a point when I had completed all the main quests and been to all of the Alyeid Ruins and was ready for attempting Shivering Isles.
So for those continuing to have problems, I recommend biting the bullet for you too. Ultimately, you will be happy you did.
I have had No Crashes or Lock-Ups since doing so.
