Why can't my fighter have 5 proficiency pts in BOWS?

I have IWD and HoW installed with the latest patch (1.41). I started a new full game with six characters, one of them is a female human fighter. I'd like her to be the sniper of my party so I gave her proficiency points on bows during the character creation stage. When she reached level 3, I added another point to bows, making it a total of 3. My problem is when she reached level 6, I cant add another point to bows, the [+/-] just wont accept it!
Please help me out here, thanks!

Sorry, but in IWD you can only put 3 points in the bow. However i've notice that with HoW installed you can put more than 3 points in the missile weapons but the bow is still limited to 3 points (not sure about crossbows).
Anyway with 3 proficiency points you get +3 to hit and +3 to damage. With 5 points you get +3 to hit and +5 damage. So you are only losing +2 damage per hit. No big deal

Blackrose,
But with a 5 point-proficiency, you get an additional 1 attack/round as with only 1/2 attack/round for 3 point-proficiency.

The additional attack is only for melee weapons. With ranged weapons, it depends on the type e.g. ROF (Rate of fire) for bows and knifes are 2/round, ROF for crossbows and slings are 1/round and ROF for dart is 3/round.

Bows do not get the extra attacks (its an AD&D thang
) - so there is no point in putting 4 or 5 stars in them, hence you can't do it.

Alot of these 'problems' people run into are because of the AD&D rules. The 2nd edition rules have been around A LONG TIME and are balanced out appropriately, the rules are as they were meant to be and Black Isle has done an EXCELLENT job of implementing the rules and an engine that can take expansions (kits, 3rd edition rules, etc). Now they had some initial struggles with it, but I think they finally have it complete in BG2's engine. The IWD engine uses their older 'kludge', 'dual wielding bonus for rangers = +1 attack/round'. I like the TRUE dual-wield and such in BG2 that allows you to use the damage and special abilities of the offhand weapon, with corresponding benefits/penalties. Overall I like the IWD+HoW engine better than the BG I engine, because it has some of the needed features like gem/potion/scroll bags. The downside is you don't get the exp bonus for picking locks (based on difficulty of the lock) or learning a new spell. Those are more true to the spirit of AD&D, though I think they over simplified it
Learning a spell should take days, not seconds
If they're gonna be true they should make you hole up in an inn for a few days to learn sll those spells and write them into your spell book.
