Fighters Guild: Runner-way-Troll? (SPOILERS)

Hello, I have just recently come to part of the fighter’s guild quest where you have to clear out the cave (swampy cave) of trolls near Harlun's Watch? (The quest is called mystery at Harlun's Watch). I have found the villagers in the cave and the quest thing has updated saying that I have to get rid of all the trolls.

Well I have cleared all the cave of the trolls, however I didn't get any update saying that I had done so. I have searched every where in the cave so there are no faded bits, and I also have night-eye/detect life, so I can see the trolls, but there is nothing there o_O . I even went back to talk to the villagers, but they are still saying something like "If you could please clear out the cave of those troll ect". I have also reloaded my game a few times to try and redo the cave again, but still no update even though all the trolls are dead. Is it possible that one could have escaped? Or has my game glitched? Has this happened to anyone before?

Help would be greatly appreciated , thanks for reading! :D

It could be a glitch, you're not the first one i've seen posting about this. It never happened to me though. I too have wandered aimlessly through that cave, thinking what the heck could have gone wrong, and then suddenly i ran into one more troll, so before you think of any doomscenarios, be sure that you have checked and doublechecked every corner of that cave.

Having said that, it's still kinda weird considering that trolls usually come charging towards you the moment they spot or hear you, and in this particular case it seems there's one who likes to hide.

Please put a SPOILER in the title of a thread like this, just as the sticky thread at the top of the forum states. I'll change this one for you.

Aren't there Will-o-the-Wisps involved with this quest as well as Trolls? I seem to recall having to kill them as well, including one or two outside the cave. Also I seem to recollect having to examine the bodies of the dead villagers. Sorry to be a bit vague, but it's a year since I did the fighters guild all the way through.

pc console cheats *SPOILER*

Seeing as it seems to maybe be a bug, you could with a clear concious use the pc console cheat
`
movetoqt

If there is a troll you don't see that should move you to him.

Did you kill the trolls before or after you got the quest?

If you killed them after you got the quest and the previous advice doesn't work out, try fast-travelling away from the cave and sleep or wait a few hours. Then go back and look again. Sometimes creatures and NPCs go "invisible" for no apparent reason and sometimes that clears it up.

If it was before, there's a known glitch in the quest that prevents you from advancing; you can use a console code to fix it if you're on PC.

Hmm I shall try having a look around again, thanks for the reply Legend.

Sorry about that fable, I didn't realize, I shall put a spoiler up on a topic like this next time, Sorry.

Yea there were two outside, and I killed them off before entering the cave, I don't think there were anymore inside the cave though. And yep I have found the villagers, and have had the quest update about finding them. And thats ok, it's not a problem, thanks for the reply though galraen.

Ok I shall try that too, thanks jeffmartis.

I only starting killing the trolls after I got the quest from the fighters guild, I'd found the cave before, but I don't think I went inside.
Thanks also for the help, I will try that too, thank you Belthan.

Thank you all very much for the help guys! I think I replied to everyone. I shall try all the things you have suggested, thanks very much again!

Don't know if you figured it out yet or if this will make a difference, but there were 3 will o wisps outside the cave in my game.

Look for them again if you already haven't. Hopefully traveling and resting worked out for ya.
