What's the best specialist mage to be in HoW? In IWD it was the conjurer since the opposition school was the crappy divination, but now it's the extremely useful invocation. What have others found to be the best specialist now?

A conjurer made prior to installing HoW will still have access to his old spells. That being the case, I still find a universal Mage to be more versatile then a specialist one. But it’s entirely up to your personal preference. However, I would still go with the conjurer if you insist on having a specialist wizard.

Well i'm playing a general mage just now but i might restart with a specialist mage. I've given this careful thought. Conjurer loses out on invocation :( (Invocation has the best area-affect damage spells). I'll probably go for abjurer (losing out on alteration & illusion) or necromancer (losing illusion & enchantment/charm). The spells i lose are the weakest imho. What do you think? What specialist mage do you play?

I usually go with a plain vanilla mage. He doesn’t have the extra spells as a specialist but he does have the benefit of lacking spell restrictions. For me versatility in a mage is the more important then the quantity of spells he has. I have been know to use a conjurer on occasion (prior to HoW) but will stand by my previous advice of just sticking with an ordinary mage.
