reinstalling MW - which texture replacer?

Due to some problems with my computer I'm forced to reinstall MW. There are many great texture replacers out there, embellishing nature and towns and interiors and whatnot.
Now, I do want a good looking game but I don't want game performance to slow down too much. That was pretty much the case with my last installation, but I had many different texture replacers installed (not to mention a lot of other FPS killing mods).
Which texture replacers do you recommend, keeping the above in mind? I'm running a Pentium 4 2.66 GHz with a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200.

Might want to search on texture. I know it's been discussed, before. But likely other people here will have their own ideas.

I'll try to answer, later, if I have some time. :)

This might help.

Thepal's Amazing, Wonderful and Spectacular Morrowind Texture Pack Comparison Page

EDIT: I didn't name that link by the way.

Thanks, ML! I'd never even heard of this site but it's just what I needed!

Fable, I did do some searching (I'm one of these annoying non-moderators who tells others to use the search-button, it's what it's there for, we've got enough threads as it is, etc. ;) ) on GB and other forums but information about textures is a bit fragmented and inconsistent. I figured this would make a good and useful thread.

I've used both VibrantMorrowind and the UltimateTexture mods.
I prefer the VibrantMorrowind mod and am using it on my current games. :)
In the past I have had problems with some texture packs and certain house mods. :( Ever so often I change the textures to give the game a "new" feel.
Have not tried DarkerMorrowind but have it dl'ed for a future playthrough.

Of the various texture packs I've tried, I tend to prefer "Ultimate Textures" because it slows my ancient (a 6-yr old P3) PC down less than the others for some reason, and I like the naturalistic look, which I find works better with the feel of the game. Of course, that is just me, I generally dislike really bright colours.

They are all good though. What I'd suggest, is once you have the game with the official patches installed, do a backup of your Textures folder. That way you can try the different replacers without a problem.

Thanks, DW. These days I always make a back up anyway before installing most mods. I learned that lesson the hard way
