The frontline of the war on terror is about to move... to Azeroth.

According to Kevin Zuccato, head of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre, terrorists are being trained in games such as World of Warcraft to scout out simulated real-world environments, and train in weapons that are "identical to real-world armaments."

Zuccato told an Australian Security Industry Association conference that terrorists no longer have to travel to the target they want to attack to carry out reconnaissance, but create a virtual replica and rehearse an entire attack online. Bad news if you live the Tower of Azora then.

"We need to start thinking about living, working and protecting two worlds and two realities," Zuccato said.

I'm sorry the forum rules don't allow me to fully express my amazement at the stupidity of some people. This is a GAME. I suppose that these people were also behind trying to llegalise the VCR as it would cause massive uncontrolable copyright breach. Well it did but it futhered our technology masses. I think if terrorists play video games we should ttrain teenagers to play against them then either A: beat them so much they get depressed and go home. OR, B: mislead them all every single detail.

When some guyss made Wolfeintein 3d and then Doom, many many people, including people of the US government, create a great scandall that teenagers were going to grow violent and that was a danger to national security.
People associated Doom and other games to the Columbine incident.

How in the world can people acuse games, when it is a constitutional right(mistake) to sell and buy fireweapons in the stores like they sell icecream. And also... when they created their own game too... cmom...

No seriously, anyone who has ever been in a situation of some real danger knows that it is not anything like the sort of experiences you can get from a computer game. My greatest concern is that WoW players may get too little real life training!:laugh:

Edit: It is like saying that you get really good at handling relationships if you play a lot of Sims.

Hmmm, WoW, perhaps not. But I have read something similar happening in the sim world MMO's, like Second Life. The article said that terrorists cells were 'meeting' in these 'worlds' and really I suppose if companies like IBM have set up shop there, why not Al-Quaeda? I think it was in the Economist, I'll have a dig around and see if I can find it.

Okay that's the link. It's not so much about MMO's being terrorist hangouts, but that does come up with Second Life, but about how the web is being used by them.

Have you heard of this guy before? Is this part of a long-term campaign against computer games, or is he trying to get funds because he likes his job and dislikes terrorists?

When I first read this I was astounded with the stupidity oy some people ....... This isn't stupid, Cartell. This is cynical demagoguery. It happens everywhere, and it is an attempt to play on the irrational fears and hates of an audience by a poltiician or a political appointee. I'm sure Zuccato knew better; after all, you don't get to where he is by being a fool. And the Australians are due for a major political election, soon. Do the math.

I realize that that is the reason why... but you completely ignored my theory on how to stop terrorism... We shouldn't be trying to protect Azeroth.... we should be shipping WoW and PC's that can run it to all the major terrorist orginizations. Get them all so addicted, all they want to do is play WoW.:laugh:

Problem is, what if the majority of those terrorists don't even know how to use a computer? Would be pointless to play WoW, let alone even use a computer. :laugh:

As for politicians, I have totally little to no respect for them at all. Ever since the Hot Coffee incident back in 2005, my respect for them have dropped to an even all new low. Damn politicians.
