Vexing Thoughts (***Possible Spoilers***)

3 - You'll encounter a spectral suit of armor named "Vexing Thoughts" here. During the conversation, you can "command" the suit of armor to enter your inventory so that you might wear him (this is the Vexed Armor from our equipment section). To avoid being instantly killed when you don the armor, you can either bargain with "him" to slay an innocent or cast the 5th level mage spell "Contact Other Plane" to learn his true name. After you have done either of these two steps, the armor becomes ultra-powerful and will no longer kill the character who wears it.

Above is from the Walkthrough for HoW.

I did the 'Contact Other Plane' and as soon as I donned the armor 'he' appeared and in short order attacked and killed my entire party. Image

Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone else been successful in 'aquiring' this armor? What am I doing wrong? Image

I don't own HoW, but maybe your Charisma, Wisdom or Intelligence is too low?

Ahhh, good point. Not the three areas I worry too much about with fighter types. Image

This particular fighter has 10 in all of those stats.

Odd… I didn’t have any problems wearing the armor. When I did it I talked to him first, backed off and cast Contact Other Plane, then talked to him again and told him his true name. The armor never did anything freaky with me.

Ah, I think I see the problem. Image

I let 'him' enter my invertory prior to casting 'Contact Other Plane'.

Oh, well. I sold the armor. No big loss I suppose. Image

The armor is actually quite good. Well worth the effort of acquiring. If you have a save before that I would recommend going back. There are better suits out there, but not many. You sold the armor huh? I pity the poor soul who buys it.
“Ah, what a nice suit of armor.”
POOF
“PREPARE TO DIE MORTAL!”
“What the f***?! ARGH!!”
Dateline will probably have a consumer alert based on this horrific incident. Image

I had a different experience. I don't have the Contact Other Plane spell, so I just lied. I told the armour that I would kill an innocent and he believed me. Unfortunately, my journal now tells I that I have killed an innocent (9 of them!) even though I didn't. Will this have implications for my reputation?

Just look at your reputation, and if it's lower, pay off the corrupt church!

All heroes are in involved in some scandal, yours can be slaughtering innocent villagers!

This is interesting. I had thought that one could not see one's reputation in Icewind Dale and HOW (unlike BG). How do you check it?

You can't see your Rep in IWD. There *is* an option to feedback quest XP however.

I thought the only advantage of Resurrection was that it gave all HP back instead of just 1 and works on Elves, unlike Raise Dead. *mutters about the highway robbery prices of bringing Elves back to life*

Works for me, i can't just use Raise dead on him (due to what you said) but ressurection seems to do the trick :)

Gotcha. Ressurection works on exsplosive deaths.

Raid dead is like restoring life to a body (can't be done if the body is in little fleshy lumps over the cavern floor). ;)
