Captive Adventurers-Spoilers

Is there any way to avoid fighting the captive adventurers in Dragon's Eye 4? We rescued them, they helped us in one battle, but now when we encounter them a fight breaks out between us. We don't need this, as we also have trolls and lizardmen to fight together. Just to prove it wasn't my doing, I let AI do the whole battle, and, yes, we fought the friendlies. Or is this supposed to happen?

If you injure an adventurer, they will attack you. Therefore, if you release the adventurers to fight for you, be very careful about using damaging area-effect spells like Fireball, and don't use damaging area-effect spells with a duration of more than one round (like Spike Growth).
If you are careful, you will not have to fight the adventurers.

If you let the AI do the whole battle then it's certainly your fault. It's like letting your dog drive your car and claiming that it is the one to blame when an accident happens.
If the adventurers survive they'll offer to watch while you rest, saving you a long way back to the next safe resting place.
From the powergaming point of view it's more beneficial if they die, they have good equipment.
If you're evil you can get both benefits if you kill them just before leaving Dragon's Eye forever.

Fighting the Friendlies
Thanks, Aerich and Kmonster. My letting the dog drive the car was just to see if this was my fault for clicking my party to attack a friendly by mistake. Sometimes the fighting is in crowded conditions where that can happen. I wasn't thinking about the area-effect spells setting the friendlies off. I'm a Neverwinter Nights player most of the time, where friendlies are not hurt by your spells. I have of course experienced my own Icewind party members being hurt by our mages' spells or our firebombs, but they don't get mad!
I'll have to turn off the AI or have all mages unmemorize all area-effect spells. I'm a roleplayer and don't see my guys killing the captive inhabitants of Kuldahar.
