I'm sorry if this is in a million posts, but I can't get the goofy search function to work with that verification box...

I can't get a dialog started with a LOT of people. I couldn't talk to the little boy outside the circus tent, or the shopkeeps in the Promenade. Now I got the slave quest (Hendak talked to me at first) but when I go back (with the key) it's saying: "You cannot initate dialog. Hendak (or whoever) appears busy."

ARGH. I can't get the hag in the Copper Coronet or Lord Jierdan to talk to me and Jierdan keeps calling out to me...

Possible problem: I have Vista now (double ARGH on Vista). Is that anything?

Well I heard of this bug before. I believe it was something simple like installing the official patch or something. You could also try reloading the area (save and load again). Do a search on the forum (the appears busy line should do the trick) for more info.

Why isn't the search function working, exactly?

In addition to installing the official patch you should install the bugfixes provided by [url="http://www.baldurdash.org/"]Baldurdash[/url].

Oh yay! I'll try those bug patches right now. It's been years since I played BG, so I've sort of forgotten everything. I forgot I still even had it, but I was getting my manual out for NWN and it was in the box. Heehee!

The search function keeps saying I didn't put in the verification code right, even if I do it case specific, non case specific, spaces, no spaces. I can't really tell what I'm doing wrong.

Hmmmm, so:

A: I downloaded the patch from BioWare's site. It says I already have SOA installed and cancelled it. I downloaded the TOB patch and now I can click on Hendak and walk over to him, but no conversation happens. Also, (I forgot about this) the key that I'm holding for the cells won't open the doors. They opened upstairs by the slave master guy, but not by Hendak.

B: I saw this thread on BioWare, but the guy never said what other patch he found.
BioWare Forums: Problem with NPCs. Hopefully that'll go through.

I'm just trying to avoid reinstalling and losing my character.

Oh heck. And:

C: HOLY MOLY. That is a lot of patches on the Baldurdash page. Which one(s) do I use? And it says something about not installing it if you have TOB installed, which I do. Anyway to take it out?

I have the feeling I'm going to need to uninstall...

There's no verification box on the search page. Never has been. We've checked it out repeatedly, and it works fine.

If search doesn't work specifically for you, or you're getting something weird when you try, send me a personal message explaining the problem, and we'll deal with it.
