I have done all of that 'aquarium' place and fixed the bridge.
I have tried to go through the door after the freed prisnors and to go into the the door right at ther top of the area (outside i mean).
I always get the message :assertion failed in line number.. something... and some other stuff, and then the game exits.
Any tips or links to patches would be uch appreciated.

You might need the 1.0.6 patch. Go to interplays web site and find the official IWD page. From there you should be able to find a support and find the exact error. I don't recall exactly what the problem is but it is reparable.
Worst case would be to export your save games, remove and reinstall, and then import your save files.

I had this problem I forced me te stop playing the game for several months. It is a UK specific problem (I think) something to do with a fault in copying the CDs.
There is a UK specific patch available to download. Otherwise Heart of Winter should fix it as well.
I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling and playing with all the game settings but it didn't help.
I can't remember where the patch is but there are links to it from the official site and possibly from gamebanshee as well.

Now, I realize this is for bg2. I posted this link earlier in soa page so I just copied it here. You should be able to get to the IWD support page from here though. Can you give up the rest of the assertion or let us know when you find it on the support page. It really shouldn't be too big of a deal to fix
