Diffculty affecting loot?

If you read my "Argh" thread then you know that I had to redo a bunch of stuff due to my idiocy in deleting my last save. To make this go faster I reduced diffculty and noticed that the loot seemed not as great. While I know that much of the loot is random, does the difficulty setting affect the loot? I only brought it down 1 notch.
