I just heard in one my fantasy yahoo groups, so no links as of yet, but he died last night my time, after a long fight with a horrid disease.

The Wheel of Time remains unfinished and the last 12th book should have been it, the end of the saga. I was a great admirer of it and it is really a tragic day for both us the fans, and him, who worked so hard on what is for me, one of the better fantasy works we have ever had.

Rest in peace Dragon.

His wikipedia page seems to confirm it now.

Although the WoT was much critisized, I found the series quite enjoyable, in spite of many obvious flaws. I hear they are still planning to publish the 12th book, A Memory of Light.
