Stat pts

Does anyone know how the a characters stat points will be handled? I've read that it won't be like BG2 with the rerolls but with a pool of pts. Does anyone know what the number of pts we are going to be given to play with?

It's based on a point buy system...
all your abilities start at 8. this is what the differant scores cost...
9-----1pt
10----2pts
11----3pts
12----4pts
13----5pts
14----6pts
15----8pts
16----10pts
17----13pts
18----16pts
you get either 25 or 30 points to use, bioware has yet to decide how many...

Will Charisma finally be any use? Otherwise I expect a world with a slight over-representation of Charisma 8 characters...

Well for one thing - sorceres spells should be detmerined by Charisma - so that is one group that will "look good"

I actualy think 8 char may be a bit on the high side for a low score.
Have orcs, grumpy old gnomes or dwarves. Snoby elf, drow, or just some mage that never understood about social or interacting w/ people.
I also don't know if I liek the fact that sorc will need char, I mean its good to make it usefull and all, but I don't see powerfull mages as being oozing with with it.
I see more cons, int, and wis being a play, but that imo

Sorcerers, Bards, Paladins need good Charisma. Clerics have
some use for it. Other classes have no "mechanics" related need for it as far as I know.
And, no, Charisma does not necessarily make you look better.
Just look at your BG1 & 2 parties for examples. Charisma measures a character's ability to act in a way that compels or inspires others, strength of personality, leadership and magnetism besides just looks.

Does any of these fit sorc (a mage) ? I don't see mages as someone people flock to and like being arround in compairioson to say a bard or even a fighter.
