Time Travel

I was feeling bored and restless, and thus I was perusing ancient SYM threads. Here is one of the more interesting I came across...started by SYM's very own legend, Weasel.
Anyway, I thought it might be fun to revive the topic, because it is often an interesting one. So, if time travel were a reality, to which age would you go, why and with whom?
I'm tempted to say, back in the twilight of primordial sludge, just when life was first forming on earth... Except, I think I'd need gills for that
Why? Well hey, not to mention the obvious fascination, it's kind of cool to be able to say, "I was there, right at the beginning."
With whom? Either my SO or a dear friend
![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)
Because things as profound as this should be experienced with somebody you truly care about.
I may think of more later.
Oh, and unlike the original thread I linked to.. here you
can alter history... so brace yourselves

Well, I'd really like to see some of the Elizabethan and Jacobean plays as premiered, especially several that only survive in partial form--like Macbeth (despite Shakespeare's caricature of witches
![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)
). I'd also like to meet at least 2 or 3 of the playwrights, notably Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, and George Chapman.
There are many other places I'd like to visit, but lacking any understanding of the language, I'm afraid I'd be at a loss to interact intelligibly with the inhabitants. I'd love to hear Herodotus read aloud from his Histories, or go through initiations to Osiris and Isis in Middle Kingdom Egypt, or watch the first historic parliament meet in Budapest in the mid-19th century. But I wouldn't try to change history, because there is no way to know how those changes would cascade in the future.
...except that I'd try to keep William Shatner from ever getting the part of Kirk in Star Trek. Gods, he's an awful actor.

Reminds me of that Ray Bradbury's novel...
You accidentally step on a butterfly and the human history is rewritten.

Time travel certainly opens up tonnes of opportunities to review history or take a peek into the future. However, it is also very dangerous as meddling with time can prove disastrous.
But if I could, I would certainly like to see how the world was created. Adam and Eve or evolution. That would put a stop to the science vs religion debate.

I'd go back in time with just myself, all the way to when cavemen existed, and scare the living daylights out of them with fire, just to see what the future would be like without fire.
I'd also go to the medieval age and get a sword. I'm not a nerd who just has to have a sword for some reason, but if I were to ever get any type of sharp blade more than two feet long, I want to be -actually- authentic.
And then I'd go into the future, on the date December 13th, 2012, just to see if the apocalypse actually came one day earlier.

Tsk Tsk... Interfering in "The Prime Directive" solely because of William Shatner... Surely, surely there are more noble changes to be made
@Kipi, lol! :laugh:
Hmm.. A couple more things I'd like to travel back to..
I'd like to see this continent and others before the arrival of the Europeans, just to stare at the land in its relatively virgin state.
I'd also enjoy visiting the showings of the Impressionist and Post Impressionist painters...
Just because it would be amazing to see the works of people like Monet or Gauguin in the same period in which they were created.
Plus, it would be fun to tell the many Salon naysayers that said works would end up being worth a fortune..

I would go to a place in time and space where the conditions were very ripe for me to really become aware that it is always no-time and no-where. The power to choose happens now! :mischief:

I'd probably go back in time and tell my father to never buy that computer. Would be interesting to see when I'd lose my "virginity" then. And if I end up like one of those people I despise so much now.
But seriously, I'm sure I'd exploit that whole time travel thing somehow in order to make my current self extremely rich. First and foremost.

In all truth, I would probably misuse the power and mess the future of humanity :mischief: I

I'd go back to when I was 10 years old and tell myself everything I know now. (and a couple of weeks lottery numbers of course)

I would probably travel a month into the future and find out the answers for all my upcoming exams.
How nice is thats possible....

Assuming that peeping in on your conception day is just too gross for words...
I think I'd have to go back to Toronto on May 15th, 1953 to see the Massey Hall jazz concert - one of the "once-in-a-generation" performances that was/is tragically overlooked.
Xan - are you really sure the 10-year-old you is ready for
all your knowledge? There are some things that can scar an innocent little kid forever, you know
