You need to have the cleave feat and you need to kill the first target. The theory behind the cleave is that you can hit more than one target with a single blow if they're standing close enough. Think of using a weedwhacker. If two plants are close enough you can get them both with one swing. At low levels, the only class that can cleave in the barbarian. Fighters, paladins and rangers get to cleave at higher levels.

It depends on the spell. There are area effect spells (ie-Fireball) that will burn everything within 30 or so feet. Other spells (ie-Magic Missile) can affect a variable number of targets based on the caster's level (ie-a 3rd level sorcerer can fire two missiles at one target or one at one target and the other at a different target, provided that they are standing near each other).

The first NPC you pick up is Jariel, a 3rd level sorcerer. He can cast two magic missiles with each casting, and gets one additional missile for each odd-numbered level. When it's his turn, select Arcane Spells>Magic Missile. The target cursor will come up. Place the icon over a nogoodnik until he turns red then left-click. Jariel casts one missile for d4+1 damage. The target cursor will appear again. Select another target; either the same or different. If you choose a different target, Jariel will either cast the second missile or the computer will tell you that the second target is too far away (from the first target). Keep selecting targets until you run out of missiles.

You know, I really don't think a lot of people would be clammering to string you up the flagpole if you admitted you downloaded it at this point. I payed for please make a backup copy for me to hold on to for the next 24 hours. I have been gnawing on the disc, the box didn't give even a token resistance.
