Can someone please take pity on a dumb newby? I want to download the 1.6 patch. Everything goes ok, then I'm told that my file already exists and do I want to overwrite it. I didn't, cos I'm scared it will wipe the game off my disk or something! What do I do to install the patch?

First of all, welcome to Game Banshee! :)

What do you have installed?
For example, I believe that at least one of the expansions actually contains the patch. So, if you have either "Heart of Winter" or "Trials of the Luremaster "installed, you may already have the patch.

Overwriting the file shouldn't cause a problem, though, but I'd suggest waiting until one of the more tech savvy people here can confirm that.

Thanks dragon wench! Yes, I have HoW installed also - I got the 3-in-1 Boxset. What I really want to do is to be able to type in a few cheats now and then, (not the file editor ones - too complicated for me!). But when I go to cheat sites they say I have to download a patch. I've tried pressing Ctrl+Tab during the game to open the cheat console, but nothing happens, so I guess I need the patch.

You need to edit a file to acces the cheat console (wasn't it a ctrl-space btw). The cheats page should cover it, if not try searching this forum, it's bound to be here somewhere.

If you have HoW you don't need to edit the .ini file. Just run the config program. Somewhere in there there is an option to enable cheats. Select that and run the game. Press ctrl+tab to activate the command line and type GetYourCheatOn:EnableCheatKeys();

The only patch you need is automatically installed when you install Trials of the Luremaster.

The option is "Enable Cheat Console" and it's under the Game tab on the configuration menu.

Hey!
I have a similar problem, I can activate the cheat console, but not any cheats seems to be activated when I type them in, could somebody please help?

The specifics :

I have the 3 in 1 Boxet set, and I have IW1+HoW+TotL installed.
I have both Cheats=1 in the ini file, and Cheats Console enabled in the Configuration.
When I enter (copy and paste to be sure not to miss) GetYourCheatOn:EnableCheatKeys(); it is OK, it appears on the message window. I tried lower and upper case, all combinations.
But after that I try entering any cheats, and it does not work.
For example, after completing each area, I would like to use the CHEATERSDOPROSPER:ExploreArea(); to be able to (artistically) enjoy the full map, but the only message I get is : Nice try cheater!

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Don't use "CHEATERSDOPROSPER", use "GetYourCheatOn".

CHEATERSDOPROSPER is for IWD without HoW and TotL. GetYourCheatOn (it might be all uppercase, I'm not sure) is for HoW and TotL.
