bleeding wound isnt true to its name
what it means is that with each strike of the weapon you have a chance to cause continual damage to an enemy
the most ive seen is 20%
and its not all that impressive i like poison weapons better the damage last a lot longer and can actually kill an opponent over time where as with a bleeding wound the extra damage is kind a like magic weaponry it last a few seconds and stops

Bleeding wound is the same effect as diabolic skill "Inflict Wounds".
It CAN be EXTREMELY useful.
1st of all weapons with effects - be it a magic effect or a non-magic effect (like bleeding wound), are largely affected by the over all "power" of that weapon vs. the difficulty of the opponent.
Of course no where will you find information in-game on either, but common sense should tell you that more difficult opponents in general usually are less prone to weapons with lower damage scores for that type of weapon. This typically means that weapons you find early on in the game are near useless latter in the game - IF you are relying on some sort of effect. For instance that standard Kama will be fairly in-effective (for the purpose of bleeding wound) latter in the game or against really difficult opponents (like dragons), where as the Kama of the Void will be effective even at the end fight of the game.
2nd The real power in most weapon effects isn't its offensive damage, but rather the defensive nature of the effect that disables your opponent's ability to attack you. EX. A good bleeding wound weapon like the axe Blood Reaver can incapacitate an opponent for a good while before that opponent will have the ability to make an attack.
3rd That attack typically looks like a nether attack with your opponent spasm'ing multiple times. The difference is that instead of the Nether attacks purple blinking lights you will have instead blood drops that seem to squirt from your victim.
4th The additional damage that Bleeding wound/Inflict wounds can be beneficial against large crowds of weak opponents. (i.e. it tends to kill with one successful wounding hit).
5th There may be some opponents that are immune to your special attack - for instance I don't recall banshee type ghosts being effected by the Bleeding Wound/Inflict Wound effect.
