Yipe!
In the passage just outside the well room there is a gang of dire wolves, wolfweres and a greater wolfwere. Child's play axcept for the gww. I can get hits but after getting to a certain point the gww shows no dammage and my NPCs and main character get killed. What gives? is this a bug? I have tried very tactical ploy I can think of to no avail. Does anyone have the same problem? What am I missing?

It's the weapons that you are using. Magical ones are essential. It can be killed with magic, Balduran's sword from BG1, a silver dagger, and also other magical weapons. Try them out and find out which are effective. You will probably have at least one in your armoury that is.

I am unsure of the actual monster, but the Greater Wolfwere form from the Shapechange spell has a regeneration of eight hitpoints a second, so I assume that the monster would as well. I have always killed the through a large damage output. If you have ToB installed and have acess to the Deva or Planetar spells, you're all set, Imprisonment does as well, although you have to draw attention away from the mage due to such a long cast time. If you don't have ToB the only thing you CAN do is to heavily protect everyone (Protection from Evil stacks for the AC bonus and Armor of Faith stacks for the damage resistance bonus) and to keep a constant damage output going.

A Greater Wolfwere indeed has an amazing regeneration rate, great THAC0, great AC, immunity to normal weapons, and some pretty nasty elemental and magic resistances. Indeed, if you had tried Firkraag's dungeon with much more experienced party, you'd have met three instead of just one Greater Wolfwere in this particular group.
Hints: A Greater Wolfwere is resistant to magic. Try Lowering his Magic Resistance with the wizard spell Lower Resistance, and after that kill him with spells like Magic Missile(he's not resistant to magical damage). Yet, be sure to unleash great amounts of damage in a short time in order to kill it.
The Flail of Ages works wonders on the Greater Wolfweres. You see, when Slowed, a Greater wolfwere's AC has a penalty of 4, his attacks are 2 times less and most importanlty, his regeneration rate is slowed!
With a party of six, all pounding the Greater Wolfwere, I am sure he's bound to die soon. Yet, don't forget to send a character with Stoneskin and Mirror Image forward in order to take the Wolfwere's attacks in order for your party to survive.
If you play with a solo wizard-type or thief character, then evasion is the best tactic. Invisibility or Hide in Shadows - and voila, you don't have to fight at all!

wise grimwald, you must be thinking of the (sole) Greater Wolfwere that is present in Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast. That particular creature is indeed invulnerable against any weapon that is not made of silver. However, the Greater Wolfweres in BG2 are a different breed, so to speak, and they do not possess the same invulnerability.
The Greater Wolfweres in BG2 are immune to non-magical weapons, and they regenerate hit points rapidly. They have 50% resistance to magic and elemental damage, but slashing, blunt, and piercing weapons do full damage. Aside from excellent stats and powerful melee attacks, there isn't really anything else special about them. To kill them before they regenerate, you essentially need to inflict at least 66 points of damage against them in a single round. The best way to kill them is to gang up on them one at a time and hit them as hard as you can. Potions of Strength and Potions of Haste help a lot.
If you meet them when your characters are very high in level, you can kill them in one hit with Greater Deathblow (since they are 11th level monsters). An Arrow of Detonation or a Fire Seed combined with Greater Deathblow will kill several of them at once. (Gotta love that cheese.)

I remember reading somewhere that the gww regenerates all of his hitpoints after 1 round (Vondondu mentioned it, but didn't name the reason). This means hit him hard and hit him fast. I suggest luring everything out 1 by 1 so you stand just against the gww.
Just for the record, you weren't missing anything. It took me an extensive internet search to figure that out.
