Trial of the Elders - Last Room

I made it to this room but can't seem to figure out what the goal is here. Checked the walkthru but it doesn't really help. What am I supposed to do? There doesn't seem to be any point other than just killing a nonending supply of disembodied elves while trying to stay alive. How does one get out?

You have it right. You just kill a nonending supply of disembodied elves while trying to stay alive. I'm not sure how the walkthrough didn't make this clear.

..the point is that it is NOT "non-ending".
After about 8 spawns for each of the 3 platforms it does end and the elder mage hurling the fireballs disappears and the elevator platforms descend.
Its a more literal version of "trial by fire".

I have ADD, not that that's a problem but I do tend to see things a bit differently from most. Perhaps it is just the way I was reading the walkthru. Anyway, thanks guys, its a real help.
