Guard keeps attacking.

Just finished Narlen Darkwalk's quest, where I had Imoen serve as a lookout for him. When the guard came, I had Imoen give the warning, and then go to where the rest of the party was, and then had the party leave that area.

Now, when I go back to that area (Area 0300) the guard is still there and starts attacking my party. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks. Sonny

The mistake was in using Imoen, Narlen specifically said you alone, no followers. In fact Narlen shouldn't have appeared if Imoen was with you. Presumably you met him alone, then went and got Imoen, thus disrupting the quest line. Best bt is to go back to a save before the first encounter with the guard and do the quest again if possible.

I don't think it matters who talks to the guard as long as it's a Thief (or multi-class Thief). Narlen only gets upset if he sees another character with your Thief who isn't also a Thief.

Did you meet Narlen back at the guild hall? You need to talk to him again (and get your share of the loot) before the quest is over. I can't find anything in the scripts that makes the guard disappear, so I don't know what else to suggest, except perhaps to charm him with Algernon's Cloak.

OK, thanks guys. Everything seemed to work just fine. Narlen talked to Imoen, the animation took over while she followed him to the house, and the guard showed up, and since the rest of the party was only a little ways away, as soon as the guard starting chasing Imoen, I hit the key that highlighted the whole party and left the area.

Yes, I did go back to the thieves guild and talked to Narlen and got my split of the money and another quest.

I'm going to try the charm thing. If that does not work, will it cause any problems if I just don't do the quest even though I have received it.
I have a saved game right before I send Imoen to meet Narlen.

Thanks again. Sonny

If the charm offensive doesn't work, you could just beat the crap out of him and then go straight to the temple east of Beregost and buy back your lost reputation. It'll cost a fair bit, and isn't exactly the nice way to do things. Alternatively, as you only need to go back to that area* for one other quest as I recall, you could just continue as is and sacrifice that quest; it's only a side quest so no big loss.

*That part of the area actually, but as long as you can get to the Blushing Mermaid the main quest won't be affected.

UPDATE:

Since I was going back to that area to give Brielbara the book, I decided before doing that, since it's still dark, to go do Narlen's 2nd quest. Well I did that and now when I go back to that other area where Brielbara is, the guards gone and there is no longer any attacks. Does that make any sense, I wonder why that happened?

Man, I love this game. Every time I turn around, it's something new.

Yeah it makes sense, quest closed, involved NPCs removed. Glad it sorted itself for you. By the way do you still have Coran in your party? I'd forgotten that you had him at one time, I wouldn't have written the stuff in the last post about the side quest not being important had I remembered.

Thanks, so am I.
Yea, I still have him in my party. Thats why I was concerned about getting back to that area. I didn't know if Coran would leave the party if I didn't take the book back.

As always, thanks for the help.

He (Coran) leaves the party if you don't accept the quest, I don't know if he has a timer that makes him leave if it isn't completed.
