Hotkeys and potions - idiotic question

PROBLEM 1: For the life of me I cannot work out how to assign stuff to the hotkeys. The manual doesn't help there, either.
PROBLEM 2: I've picked up a couple of potions with permanent effects. How do I get these into my hero's body? Right-clicking simply drops them to the ground.
PLEASE help!

I never tried setting up my own hotkeys. The game automatically sets up a hotkey bar for you, and for that one 9 and 0 pick out the best potion for you.
Double click on a potion to drink it.

manual doesnt say it, but the game actually supports it
There are a number of automatic bars the game gives you
that maps to the keys 1-9 and 0
However, you can reassign them
I use the one i get to by F8 key
Then open inventory 'i' key (or spells etc)
Then if something is already assigned to say key '1'
then RMB (right mouse button in the tool bar) and it is emptied
Then simply drag the weapon, potion or whatever EXACTLY
on the middle of the box corresponding to key 1. On highres screens
it can be hard to get it exactly right since the item is usually larger
than the box
Then release LMB once over the empty slot
and now that key selects/equips whatever you dragged there

as for potions
i use same method, drag a stack of attribute
increasing potions to a hot key, then use the key until the
stack is empy
once you pick any such up again the toolbar simply shows
that you have other than 0 then just hit the key to use it
again.

The trick here is that the main hotbar, the one you get when you first start the game, is non-configurable. You have to switch to a new hotbar in order to drag and drop icons.

me too
Thanks I have bee having a TON of problems with this too.
I have found it helps to change my screen size from 1600x1080 to the worst res I can get and then the box is bigger and its easier to get the thing hot keyed.
I then change back to high res and enjoy.

you might want to save potions with permanent effects to use as ingredients in your alchemy recipes. Say you have a potion that give 1 STR and 1 Vitality. If you find other ingredients that add the STR or VIT to a multiple of 5 and use 10 ingredients in the potion then you multiply stat increases by 1.8. So if your potion raised Vitality by 5 (maybe two beaver fats)..dunno what raises str yet..you will get 9 Vitality from the 5.
The potion must have 10 ingredients
You must have 10 alchemy
The potion must have more squishy ingredients than solid ones (gems)
Even if you only have 9 ingredients or a little less alchemy you probably still get more bang for your buck.
