I downloaded this game from direct 2 drive, installed the file.... and I can't do anything.
Here are my Lap Top's Specs...
Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 1.8 Gigs
2 Gigs of Ram
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
Good sound card
Directx 10
Windows Vista Home Premium
Whenever I click on the icon and try to play the game, a message pop ups saying ToEE.exe has stopped working?
I am not sure why?

Have you tried running it in Compatibility mode? Vista's a bitch.
Also, search for the Circle of Eight Modpack. It contains many fixes.

Compatibility Mode is activated by rightclicking in Windows on the .exe of the game and selecting "Run in compatibility mode with Win98".

Try asking on the Gamespy fora? I've got a cd-copy, so I didn't have any Gamespy issues.
I wish I could help you. Maybe someone else around here can, so don't despair.

The download version of this game is notoriously bad. Not sure if it's just that it doesn't take patches well or what, but since the game is almost unplayable without patches, it doesn't really matter.
I've heard the jewel box version is bad for some as well. If you can get it in the box, that's your best option.

You'll have to describe the exact problem/error. Does your savegame list appear empty? Is there no load game button?

When I try to load the game file it says that the file is corrupt and will not load.....
then when i Try to start a new game the NPCs are not present in the opening scenes....

I too have problems
I can't get it to run. I had it working. Got tired of not being able to loot correctly then downloaded the patches (Patches! I don't need no stinking Patches). Now every time I try to run it, the screen goes black, I get excited. Then like a woman it quits and teases me. I have the disks.

Check out the fora at the link posted just above your post. Also, try to install the Circle of Eight Mod. More info on said url.

Have you updated on your graphic drivers? DirectX? What's your OS?

re
Directx 9.0
OS: Windows XP
I can get the game to work with patch 1 & 2, but 3 seems to be the problem. The game will not start up. I read some thing about changing a .dll file but did not quite understand it.

This is from the top of my head, so I may be wrong.
Only install patch 1 & 2 then, be sure you have the right versions (UK, US, etc...), install the Co8, and don't touch patch 3.
