New to this game

Ok, so I recently started playing this game and so far I've found it quite... frustrating.
I've played through Fallout/Fallout2/Arcanum countless of times so I was really looking forward to this game as I thought it would be somewhat similiar. I started out making a party (druid/sorc/barb/melee fighter/ranged fighter) pretty carefully til I got myself a few nice rolls.
Well anyway, to my problem so far with this game: hitting! I'm in the temple outpost and I mean my characters and my foes can stand hitting after each other for several rounds without anyone getting a single hit! it's so frustrating! is there even a stat to increase your chance to hit? I've chacked carefully what the stats does and I simply can't see any, but I can't imagine playing through the game like this it's just... yes, frustrating. Maybe this game is just not for me
.
Anyways, any tips/thoughts?
