The * letter

So moderators, entice my curiosity. I once received an official warning for using the abbreviation 'OM*G' in a sentence. I used my * in a third-person context if I recall correctly (a.i. not aimed at anyone), and this person that just posted a thread uses it directly in his or her username. How would you respond to that?

The poster in your link used a l33t version of "Oblivion for the world." I don't see any asterisks on my screen in his logname. What are you seeing?
As for OM*G, I don't know why you'd get a warn for that. Did you write back to the mod who sent it at the time, to ask them why?

Actually - FTW is "for the win", not "for the world".
OMFG is an abbreviation for the "f" word as in the profanity. Not comparable to the thread in question.
Also - if having questions about moderating, PMing a moderator or Buck would usually provide response, other then pulling out some other thread.
If wondering if a thread/post violates forum rules, then the report button is usually the way to go.
I'm closing this thread for now.

Just a head's up: I googled FTW, and Tricky probably thought it meant, shall we say, "shag the world." In context, I think "for the world" was meant, given the tone of wide-eyed enthusiasm from the poster, though "for the win" is good, too. "Shag the world" makes no sense in the poster's name, given the context of his/her comments.
In all other respects, though, I agree with you. REPORT is the way to go, though I suspect Tricky got upset at seeing what he considered a lack of uniformity in rules enforcement. Understandable.
Closing the thread again.
