Planetar Bug?

I gave a quick search for 'planetar' and nothing came up so here goes...

This is interesting...

Punching through the watchers keep I'm on level 5, I go up to the 'globe' section and fight my way through that... during the course of the many battles a summoned planetar had maze cast on it by a beholder/brood mother whatever it was, a variance of the beholder anyway.

No worries, I say, continue through the next few battles, rest blah blah the usual. Now I fire down to middle room to do the whole 3 key thing, and before I turn it I go through the whole summon a bit of cannon fodder and my usual planatar. Kind of a nice ally.

Anywho, it tells me "you cannot summon another creature of that type". Well that's a bit weird, nevermind, I'll just rest for a bit and try again. Nothing, same message.

Alrighty, off to the Abyssal Fortress I go. Viola, no wuckin' forries, one summoned planetar.

Rest, let the spell recharge and back to watchers keep 5, go for the summon and bang, "you cannot summon another creature of that type".

Those of you who have been through watchers keep would know a planetar is kinda handy 'bout now.

Neither the planetar or fallen planetar can be summoned?

Was it something to do with the maze spell? Because that's all I can think of!

funnily enough, I was playing that part yesterday evening and had the same problem. the Hive Mother (I think) imprisoned the planetar and because it is not dead counts as being there with the rule that you cannot have 2 prevents another appearing in the same area.

the good news is that if you are high enough to cast summon (dark) planetar, you can also cast FREEDOM, which releases all imprisoned or mazed creatures.

that Hive Mother wasted my entire party apart from the PC - what I did was run away and then transport myself to the pocket plane - you can do that if you get far enough away from an enemy - rested, returned - set spike traps and got the Mutha to chase me. 3 spike traps finished her off and I then need to raise the party members.

the guardians that followed the use of that key also decimated my party - they did not get killed by all the lurking traps and wards and skull-traps and chased my party into the globe room. the mage leading that group then did terrible damage to the party through disabling ruses like fear - a guy with a +5 sword is no use if he is standing stunned or running around trying to kill fellow party members...

if I had not used the wand of spell strike (set on breach), even at level 32, my thief would have been dead - I was doing no damage and being chased by a hasted mage with every imaginable protection - passive and active. after repeated breaches, I used kai, assassination etc with dual wielded Answerer and Blackrazor - smackdown! (4 **** in longsword and *** in dual at 22 STR)

Now this sounds like a mighty cunning plan! I was looking for some kind of 'un-summon' ability or spell or what not...
...smackdown! (4 **** in longsword...)
For just a second then I read that as 4 **** with longsword. :p

I was thinking, "swearing at the creatures in the game, interesting..."

Then I re-read and realised it's just my filthy mind.

I found that odd at first - people using saying "****" on the board.

I've got ****ing used to it now!

Now, about that bug, try fixing your game with the original patch + BG2 Fixpack or the G3 fixpack. I'm sure it has to work, and even if a Planetar is imprisoned, you will be able to summon a new one.

Besides that, you can always bypass this bug by using Project Images to summon a (Dark) Planetar.

And another thing - don't send a Planetar vs Imrpsioning enemies. Just make sure everyone is properly buffed. Kill the Hive Mother either with an Enraged Berserker with the Cloak of Mirroring on, or with a pair of well buffed Arcane casters(Meaning all of the elemental&magical damage resistance spells, Death Ward, Chaotic Commands, Spirit Armor, Spell Trap, Spell Shield, Spell Turning, Spell Immunity Abjuration. Other buffs are optional. Dragon Breath is a Hive-Mother killer, as is Implosion.

Hive Mothers and Elder Orbs use Imprisonment, not Maze. Maze is the weaker version of the spell, while Imprisonment is permanent. They are also of different schools , Maze is from the Conjuration school, allows MR check(doesn't bypass MR), and can be negated by Chaotic Commands. Imprisonment bypasses Magic Resistance, is an Abjuration spell and the only immunity vs it is Spell Immunity: Abjuration or Berserker Enrage.

Ok I haven't been playing for a while, busy and such, but I just tried the TOB latest update and fixpack (G3) and same problem... whether it's something in one of the non-core updates (which I didn't install) or the fact it isn't working retrospectively I still have the same problem...

Any other Ideas?

Did you try going back to where you lost the planetar and casting freedom as someone suggested?
