Stole from the brotherhood

Right after doing the first task for them the messenger dude was talking and i pickpocketed him and since that ghost thing has come after me twice but i was in jail and my fist would not hurt it and now it will not come after me and when ever i go to the brotherhood they just say i must beat it first, I have tried sleeping in inn's jail's houses and it has not come back once. Is it a glitch? Am i screwed and will not be able to dot he brotherhood missions now, HELP. Thanks.

Well, keep in mind you can't hurt ghosts w/o using magic or daedric weps. So I'm not all too sure that using hand-to-hand will do much. Unless its possible to find gloves that contribute dmg. (dunno if any exist)
So i'd recommend making sure you have an earlier save & using a magic or daedric wep.
Edit: Then again, since you say you're in jail, you can't really do much anyways since your gears temporarily confiscated. So just try reloading & try not getting yourself in jail (Or you're pretty much dead if you have to fight a ghost)

i was in jail or i would have used magic, But that is not the problem, The ghost will not come to me At ALL ive tried all i can think of.

I'd just reload the game from an earlier point then and redo it.

I cant im on ps3 and it has autosaved over it

If thats case, I don't really know any easier options sorry. If I can't go back & reload, it pretty much means to remake which is a real backbreaker. 
Unless you can somehow push past it.
Try this though, not sure if it'll work. When released from the jail, break another one of the 'Tenets' then see if it'll go after you again. It might be weird but i'm thinking it 'might' just correct itself. Just a last possible option.
Lemme know if that works.. i'll check back abit later.

It doesn't auto save
over it for me it creates a separate auto save file but your's could be different I suppose.
