It's one of many cold, dreary days, with several inches of snow on the way. So I'm spending NYE late celebrations indoors with my wife, drinking wine, and sitting by the fire, and hoping she's over her cold, soon.

I am home, tired after a long working day. Champaign and home-made Napoleon pastry at midnight, in 3 hours.

Meanwhile, here is my 2008 Horoscope I would like to share with you:

Well, New Year's Eve is spent . Spent it with some friends, first at the restaurant and afterwards the countdown and drinks at my place . Going to see the old folks today .

New Year's Eve is always family time for us.

Countdown at home with family, then mom started throwing 1-year-worth of coins saved for this occassion. I think I got $5 worth of coins.

Of course, there was drinking and alcohol was flowing as usual.

Fireworks weren't as loud and as often compared to years past. I guess more people thought the wiser of spending their hard-earned money for things more worth it than some noisemakers...

Toasting around the burning remains of several basements worth of furniture, hoping I don't get hit by fireworks set off by the other four hundred visitors.

(I did actually get hit twice)

i just came home from the party (its 15:00 here). i was with friends, i was drunk and got laid. couldnt be better xD

Indeed, that's pretty much describes my night too

Gone out to see the fireworks at midnight, which were bland. After I wake up, I go out to do some sightseeing.

Dinner at home and then heading over to a friend of mine.
Drank a lot of beer before we watched the fireworks (well, we actually managed to use $350 on it ). Afterwards we went inside to play poker.

Had a quiet evening with the kids playing games....

some Wii sports....
and some Morrowind for me

While we were very happy to put the past year behind us, we actually had a quiet New Year's. We opened the last of a California red we bought at a Napa vineyard several years ago, and drank it by the fire. Then, later on, I played a bit of LOTRO while the So perused a Second Life museum

Me'n wife visited some friends down the road, since the sprog was parked with the grandparents. I cooked us a nice meal (coz the rest of them can't make anything but frozen pizza) and then we just sat and enjoyed the food and the wine. Nice and peaceful.

I think it's pure, undiluted bollocks. We're being controlled to death. In my 40 years I've seen so many ridiculous prohibitions that it blows the mind. Toy pistols, firecrackers, skateboards, rollerskates, chopper motorcycles, strong beer, GI Joe and Action Man dolls, the list is endless. Why? To protect the few morons who abuses these things. You ban strong beer from being sold in regular stores so the winos can't get hold of it and harm themselves. Instead they're forced to drink filtered paint thinner, which you can buy everywhere. An average of 125 retards get damaged by fireworks every new years eve, so let's ban fireworks! If a drunk halfwit wants to send up a rocket with his teeth, then let him! That's called natural selection!:laugh:

Was at work through some of the day, so had decided that I wanted to spend a nice quiet evening at home, having a good time on my own.
And so I did
Made some good food, opened a good bottle of wine and had champagne on chill. And then I just enjoyed the evening and relaxed, and did not stress over expectations or anything.

Also needed the evening for myself after spending 9 days of holiday with family far away from anything, during Christmas

Grandparents and my (insert any strong word here) of a dad came over. We played scrabble but cause my Dad was smoking which makes me feel sick I went up to the attic and did some modding. We watched the fireworks on TV and then I went back to the attic to watch a DVD. Came down at 4:00 to find my dad refusing to leave. My Mum eventually managed to kick him out. Apart from that it was pretty good. My Grandparents stayed the night into new years day and left in the evening.

Decided to go and watch the fireworks on Thames around the London Eye, countdown at Big Ben and all that jabber.

Put it simply, it was hell. I expected crowds, but the not crowds that took 3 hours to disperse. I think I found it worse because I had a poor woman on my arm who was dying for the toilet at half 11... AND THEY WERE ALL CLOSED. I spent 2 hours shouldering her through jam packed crowds and shunted around streets (they'd barricaded off all the usual routes so it was both scary and frustrating... you realised there was nothing you could do and you were packed in amongst thousands of drunk people).

Drugs, fighting, people letting off fireworks above their heads in the middle of the crowd. The police did nab most of them but it's still not something I wanted to see, especially as I'm trying to look after this drunk friend dying for the loo. Ahh well. Don't let it put you off London, lovely city, and very civilised. But New Year in central is not worth it for a few fireworks... most people ended up watching them on the screens anyway, and you get a more comfortable, warm and better viewing experience from the television.

So yes, this New Year was perhaps not only one of the worst New Years for me, but also one of the worst nights of my life. But ya gotta larf haven't ya. I'll say this, it was an experience and I'm glad I've done it. I can say to my grand kids I did New Years in the capital. It was an adventure... hell while I was there, but once I'd finally got everyone home safe after queuing 3 hours to the jam packed Tube there was a sense of celebration and joy for surviving it , and it's the only time I'll ever see London like that... ('cos I sure as hell ain't doing it again :laugh . Woke up to the BBC reports of 700,000 people there. I thought hundreds of thousands but not that many. And you have to remember they sectioned every one off into a very small part of the vast glorious city that is London.

I envy all those who stayed in with a cosy glass of wine. I have sworn to myself that is what I will do next year.
