you need an identify scroll and a mage
the mage is able to copy the spell into his/her spellbook, (depends on his intelligence)
when you open the scroll there will be a button copy spell, if you want to cast the new learnd spell, go to your arcane spells and memorize the spell and then rest

If I recal correctly temples will also identify items for you. This will cost you 100 G per item though.

Glasses of Identification can be bought in the Slums District, in Gaelan Bayle's home, from the merchant on the second floor. They can Identify items 3 times a day. Your mages, Clerics, and thieves will soon develop enough lore to instantly identify random junk arrows and other stuff. For the unique weapons amulets and armour you can use the glasses. Gold is abundant in the game, so don't hesitate to use shopkeepers or temples as 100 gold is the equivelent of about 3 cents in the real world

another trick is to use potion(s) of genius to boost INT which temporarily ups the characters' lore.
the cost for an id is 100gp and most items are increased more than that in value once identified.
I recommend the glasses too.

Just play the tutorial. The game basics are explained there.

Kmonster's correct. If you need more than that, consider one of the walkthroughs, especially the huge one up at GameFAQs. Though personally, I think it's far more fun to just work your way through the game the first time, without assistance, unless you get into a battle that repeatedly kills off your party.
And even that can be fun.
