NWN is not at all that much like Diablo. Diablo has a strong focus on flashy abilities and combat in general.
NWN is much more of an RPG. A lot more quests, decisions and conversations.

If you decide to get it, I would get the diamond version yes. It's a lot more gameplay and even gives more choices for the OC.
Anyway, you'll have to tell us what kind of games you like. I wouldn't buy NWN, because you like Diablo.

Diablo is an action oriented game where hack and slash is pivotal to the fun. As for NWN, it is more story oriented and follows a pretty strict questline. It is a brilliant game in my opinion, and the story alone should make it a worthwhile buy.

I thought NWN was pretty Diablo-esque myself, a sort of mid-way point between Baldur's Gate and Diablo. More hack'n'slash than BG, but more plot-oriented than Diablo.
Just wish I could find a copy of diamond, I've lost my disks...

I agree that NWN is very similar to Diablo...or at least Diablo II. I would actually say however that NWN is closer to half way between Diablo II and Dungeon Siege. The similarities to DS are immense e.g. Chicken Warrens vs. Cow World. That being said I do believe it is worth purchasing and would strongly recommend the Diamond version because it comes with several modules.
