Need some advice on Sarevok

I have a decision to make with Sarevok. I intend on adding him to my party, but I'm not sure which direction to mold him in.

I am considering having him go for GM in Halberds and wield the Ravager +6, or, since he's already a GM in greatswords, I have the option of dual classing him into a thief and having him use Carsomyr (with UAI).

My party will only have 4 members after he joins:

Berserker 13> Mage protagonist
Anomen
Imoen
Sarevok

Any and all advice is welcome.

I had him do halberds - TOB obviously (not BG2) - if you have the silver sword from BG2, Ravager is still another option worth considering.

I had him dual class to thief and he is powerful indeed (I tend to stay away from traps nowadays so I keep getting Greater Evasion, which increases speed and AC). Be careful about how many members you have in your party as it's likely that he won't even regain the abilities of his first class if too many party members are present.

I thought I had a rather small party?

I'm leaning towards the Ravager Halberd. It's nasty. He'll just use the Silver Sword until I get the Ravager.

I know that he won't make it with five, but he should with four. I'd think it better to make him a thief for the bonus items to turn him into a living tank. You might as well stick with the Silver Sword as it has a higher percentage to instantly kill. Also, if you dualclass and don't level him until he reacher level eighteen in thief, you should be able to instantly pool your points to one weapon style.

i would also go for the thief build

it makes him so much stronger, as Crenshinibon said he will tank so much damage, and he will tank even more if u use a tenser on him ;)

@Crenshinibon: the Silversword may have the really big chance to instakill but with an saving throw, the Ravager does not grant this so you may insta kill more goblins with is, but you will insta kill low level monsters anyway so the ravager is indeed stronger than the Silversword

Still, of all the instant kill weapons, the ravager would probably be the last one on my list. I rarely use GWW so the number of base attacks matters to me, so I'd use either the Silver Sword (and dual class) or the Axe of the Unyielding (to get an extra point of AC and Constitution. Same effect as the Ravager but faster base attack speed and with GWW greater defense.

In my games, I usually dual Sarevok to Mage in order to get a nice xp boost from reading scrolls(something like 80 000 xp for each of the other party members).

Ravager is way better than the Vorpal Sword:

1. +6 compared to +3. The Ravager can always hit Ascension Mellisan even with Divine Mantle on, while the silver sword cannot(even without the mantle)

2. Chance of poison damage. Very few enemies are resistant to poison

3. No-save vorpal effect. In ToB many enemies have pretty amazing saving throws even when Doomed and Malinsoned.

Of course, if you want to use Sarevok, dualling to a Thief is a good option. In this case, a quick xp boost is reading spare unnecessary spell scrolls when only PC, Sarevok and a mage(reading scrolls) are in your party. This way you'll quickly make Sarevok at least lvl 11-12 and he will be of some use. Unfortunately, I've found that dual classed fighter/thieves(no matter what the combo) tend to be weaker compared to a multiclass F/T. So you may want to stick with the pure fighter Sarevok.

At the moment of joining, Sarevok is lvl 18. A thief needs 1 980 000 xp to be lvl 19, so I think that you'll have no problem regaining your fighter levels. But how many HLAs will you be able to obtain - that's different story. Maybe if you haven't completed WK yet, you'll be able to collect 5 or 6.

I prefer Sarevok as a pure fighter myself, with Ravager as his weapon of choice. I don't like him wasting time running around in shadows when he both have vorpal attack and deathbringer assault to his command.

As for the instakill weapons, I prefer Ravager over the others, but consider Unyielding to be pretty equal in power. It's just a matter of taste. ;) Silver Sword is way worse, for reasons already explained by Saros.
