Wesp's 4.5 patch troubleshooting

I was going to send Wesp a PM, but it's not loading on my crappy dial up.

Anyway, it took me three days to d/l the 4.5 unofficial patch, I've installed it (both the base and plus files). I didn't do this because of any pre-existing bugs (my game was working flawlessly!), but because I wanted to check out the additional content.

But now it's messed up my game! I can't get past the new game screen where I allocate points to my character. I'll allocate the points, click OK, the red bar will load half way, and then I'll crash back to the Desktop.

This is really pissing me off, because my game was working fine, I spent so long d/ling the patch, and now it's acting up. I know Wesp frequents this forum, so buddy, can you give me any suggestions on how to fix this, so that I can enjoy the additional content that you went to a lot of effort to restore?

Have you done something else than installing my patch e.g. listened to sound or music of the game with the Microsoft Media player? What happens if you load an old saved game? Did you use the archive or installer version of the patch?

I downloaded the 4.5 patch as well and now my game is unplayable.

My camera view is 90 degrees off, so my character is always facing to the left.

Like you, my game was working fine and the only thing I had added was the official 1.2 patch. But now...crap!

Well, I cursed and pounded the desk, but apart from that, no.

It works fine.

Archive.

There is probably a very simple solution to that. With the 4.5 patch the numpad keys are used to rotate the third person camera and you either accidentally did that or you use some of these keys in your control setup. So either move the camera back, reconfigure your setup or delete the BIND commandos from the autoexec.cfg!

No listening to sound files?

Did you install the basic patch only or the plus one ON TOP of the basic? Were histories available and have you chosen one of them for your character?

Hello!

First a big thanks for a great mod :)

My trouble is more in game than a technical issue, so here goes:

spoiler
Spoiler
In official patches you are supposed to find the Weekapaug Thistle at the Haunted Hotel. To my big surprise i found only stat book (presumably dodge?) where the Thistle was supposed to be. Has the Thistle been moved to another location, or should i just continue searching it at the Hotel (I may have missed it, because of my low inspection score)?
Thanks in advance.

The two items you mention have been swapped because their effect on the stats is exactly the same and with the original order it was possible that you couldn't read the book when found because you already carried the Thistle.

I've found end game bosses like Ming and Sheriff are goddamm weak. I did shot only 7 times with The Desert Eagle on Ming, and about 10-12 on Sheriff, his morphed form was pathetic aswell, only one burst from Steyr did the thing.
Was it the purpose of 4.45 patch or maybe just a small mistake made by creator?

Well that clarifies it. Thanks again! :)

I don't know about the later boss fights, but the early game "boss" fights (prosthetic man and Kuei-Jin in Santa Monica) seemed to be harder. I had no real problems with them when playing with official patches only. I barely made it with the Kuei-Jin. Maybe i subconsciously altered my playing style, maybe not :)

If you used the plus patch the damage was indeed tweaked a bit but e.g. in case of the Desert Eagle by only 2%. So this was similar in the original...

Maybe nwz is right, it's been my 2nd time thru the game. I've found the battles a lot easier than before, cuz now I have an idea what to do not to get killed.
But to be honest, the battle against Ming was way too easy. My first run was Malkavian firearms fuk'oh. I used SPAS as my main weapon against Ming, I wasted tons of ammo on her, and she was still breathin', when my 2nd run was Toreador, again guns, I did 7 shots with my sweat Eaggy and she dropped dead. Hmm, lemme ilustrate this to you
Malk's run, Ming's hp: |==========| after burst of SPAS |======== |
Tor's run, Ming's hp: |==========| after 7 shots of DE | D E A D |
Both had 10 10 in Firearms. Maybe DE has some kind of pearcin dmg which I have absolutely no idea about... I know it's a minor hitch, but I've found Ming to be a kind of bitch for the first time, lots of duck-n-hide game.
Oh, and yes, I did install plus, cuz I like the idea of Blood Buff to give only 2 additional dots in your physical stats. No powergaming.

Btw wesp well done with the patch, I look forward to checking your new patches.

Strange. I don't know how Bloodlines calculates the end-damage exactly, but the stats for the SPAS are "SkillRequirement" "7", "BaseLethality" "18" and "Dmg" "3 Lethal Ranged_Combat DMG_BUCKSHOT" while those of the DE are "SkillRequirement" "7", "BaseLethality" "12" and "Dmg" "3 Lethal Ranged_Combat DMG_BULLET". So the difference must be in DMG_BUCKSHOT vs DMG_BULLET. Maybe no all the buckshot pellets are calculated to hit? Or the smaller pellets are not supposed to penetrate as deep as one bullet with the same power?

What is buckshot, or are pellet bullets?

I'm no native English speaker but I call the small bits inside a shotgun shell pellets and the game calls the whole thing a buckshot compared to e.g. the Desert Eagle bullet.

No sweat Wesp, neither am I Eng speaker, Poland here.
But you know what, I do like the idea of easier fight, cuz then I can push my character to more social area, where I can seduce, intimidate, or persuade. That's what I like in this game, cuz fights are kinda borin'. Prefer chit-chats (=
And the idea of killin an armored man by mean only 2 shots is what I've been lookin' for so long. Hated when they were able to survive a burst of SPAS.
I s'pose you accidently made the game I wanted it to be from the very beginning. Hope they did make a way how to avoid all the fightnin in Hallowsth Hotel.

While I agree with you, I haven't made the fighting much easier in my opinion. I balanced the damage of some weapons a bit, mostly compared to similar guns, but I even weakened others like the rifles or the flamethrower. Maybe lowering the ridiculous swaying of most is what has the biggest effect on gameplay...

Patch works fine for me but two things I noticed seem to be broken.

1) Not sure if this was in any notes but I can't get Bertram Tung's quest for the free Computer skill bump if I am not a Nosferatu and I could do this in other patches. Not sure if this got switched back to a Nosferatu only quest.

2) I get Gary's e-mail for the Ming-Xiao haven poster first instead of last. If I get the Imalia's tape for Gary to try to finish the Ming-Xiao poster mission, the tape just sits in my mailbox.

The workaround is to get the other items in order so that the posters show up in your haven. Once you finish the quest, you get a second e-mail (for the first haven poster quest) that you can just delete.

That quest was switched back for the basic patch and I accidentally mixed up the two files in the 4.5 patch. It has already been fixed for version 4.6! I hope we find all similar mix ups caused by the reverting of the install order!

The order was changed on purpose to have the posters visible longer, but I overlooked that the mailbox had separate conditions. I just fixed it for 4.6, thanks for the bug report!

Hi, this is the first time I actually post in this forum (I have just registered). I've played VTM: Bloodlines for quite some time, but now, that I've installed the 4.5 patch same thing happened to me: the Weekapaug Thistle wasn't at it's original location. Well, I figured, probably they have been swapped and I'll get it at Grout's mansion. But, I didn't. Instead I got the very same book I already had from the Hotel. Bad thing is, I already got 2 on Dodge so I couldn't use the second book :( Was this an error of sime kind?
