I'm about 8/9th level. I'm playing more than one character. I have not received any points when I level up to improve my skills. Is this normal?

More info is needed.

What class is your character? Is it a dual or a multi? Which particular level up are you refering to? I.e. a fighter going from level 9 to 10 only gets 3 HP (1 if multi classed) and 1 bonus to THAC0. Nothing else.

adding to Silvanerian's note- you dont get skill points for weapon specialization after every level (for example, fighter types get one point to increase their weapon skill every 3 levels)

Yep. In AD&D 2E, that BG is based on, there many extremely "dry" levels where nothing can be done except for the stock level bonuses. Only thieves get the skill point at every level, and spellcasters (where appropriate) get new spell slot(s) to fill. It should be perfectly normal.

I'll keep going

I'll keep going for a couple level's but i don't think my thief has either, except for his thieving skills but not any weapon skills. I am playing four characters of my own.
pal.
fight/cleric
fight/thief
mage.
started multi game then moved it to a single player game. Should this have any effect on the game?

Well, unless you temporarily adopt NPCs for their quests you'll get a bit less XP. Other than that, not really.

Exactly what I meant by Thief Skills. Weapon "stars" are only gained once every 3rd levels at best, and much slower in general.

PS: If you really want extra XP, try resting in dangerous areas. Be prepared for combat before hand.
