Game suddenly runs extremely slow/choppy

I never had problems playing BG1 or BG2 but I recently decided to try and complete the game from the start to the very end. Now I have a serious problem. After about 5 or 10 minutes (max) the game becomes very slow and choppy, making it rather impossible to play. If I exit the game and start it back up a couple minutes later, it's good again but then it starts all over  .

The thing is, I've played those BG games a lot before on this pc and never had issues... Been playing with the configuration but nothing seems to work. I cleaned my pc (now 100GB free disc space), increased virtual memory, made sure enough ram is available and so on. Nothing seems to work.

Also, it's the same for BG1, BG2 and the BG Tutu version.

I really hope someone knows how to help me out on this.

Try clearing your cache.

To be honnest, I don't know how or where to find that.

I only know where to clear my browsers cache...

Needless to say I don't know a ton about computers.

Btw I run XP if that matters.

If it was the games cache folder that you meant, that seems to be empty even if I just played it.

game becomes too slow while playing

well i found the solution.its due to laptop overheating that game becomes slow after 5 to 10 mins.i tried keeping an ice bag under laptop  and then treid playing the game.it works fine when i use it but it becomes sluggish again when i remove it.

so its an overheating problem.

In that case I'd strongly advise you to check for a broken fan or some dust obstruction. The CPU is probably capable to lower its workload in order to decrease power consumption and heat, if it detects a heat surge. Laptop are notoriously difficult to open up though.

Optimal

3ghz cpu [or duo/quad]
1gb+ ram

Run all OS and games from 10k drive
Run BG on at least gforce 6600gt card
Make ISO copy of DVD and mount with daemon tools
[for map loading]
Run in unsupported [sic] 1024/768 mode
Make sure you have a decent page file reserve ,, 3Gb's.
[step 2 if...]
disconnect from net
unload /terminate all processes/tsr's not needed.
[ie.. turn off firewalls and virus protection,, you are no longer on
net so not needed]

All my map loading/save loading and transitions are under 5 seconds
and frames per sec is 50+. Even in huge battles like last combats in
Watchers keep frame rates never go below 20

It sounds to me like your video GPU [Graphics Procesessing Unit]
Vid card
Is struggling with the game.
Maybe try 800 by 600 resolution.
And/or there is some trouble with graphics 'cache' as klorox
hinted towards.. ;)

Difficult over net ,, need hands on. lol

Okay, I know this thread is old news. But I was reading it and something was frustrating me.

I have this same problem, my computer temp is only around 20 degrees Celcius. So it's obviously not overheating. But every time I go onto BG2 it runs really choppy.
I go back to my BGConfig thing to edit everything, and my Cache Size got reduced from 5,000 megabytes to 300... I always keep changing it back and clicking apply, why does it keep resetting it?!?!
