Dwarf F/C vs. Half-Elf C/R

Post by Klorox »

I'm trying to decide which is better from a powergaming point of view:

The Dwarf Fighter/Cleric gets:

Better saving throws
More Hit Points
-1 AC
Slightly faster level-ups

The Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger gets:

Charm animal ability
Stealth
Racial Enemy
Limited access to Druid spell

Any input is welcome. I'm looking for a character that can step up and be a tank if needed, but who will primarily be a spellcaster. The rest of my party looks like this: Pal, F/D, F/Ill, F/M/T, Bard.

TIA

R/C. You forgot the +1 ApR.

Saving throws shouldn't be too much of an issue with this party because of your spellcaster power. You've got plenty of room for Remove Fear, PfE 10' Radius, Recitation, Chaotic Commands, etc.

HP hopefully shouldn't be too much of a problem either. The differential isn't that much, and if you're getting down to the last few HP with your secondary tank, you need to rethink your tactics for that fight anyway. :)

The access to druid spells isn't all that limited considering the amount of XP available to you, and it adds considerably to the character's offensive spell repertoire.

I think you'll find that your F/D and your F/Ill may actually be better tanks than this character (no matter which option you choose) at various stages of the game. The F/Ill can get a decent AC (Shield plus Robe of Enfusing plus Ring of Protection, etc) and has Mirror Image, and the F/D can achieve over 100% resistance to slashing damage with certain items, War Chant, and the water elemental shapechange.
When your back is against the wall... the other guy is in a whole lotta trouble.
