armor torn apart within seconds

around level 22-23,
light armor 100 (!)
blade + block 65

went to kwatch, it is tough to say the least, o-gate shut, and now the city has to be liberated.

unfortunately, each 2-3 hits by random deadra, my leggings are torn to 0, my helmet to 30 or less, my gauntless to 40 or less, and cuirass to 60 or less. 2-3 hits !!!!!

this means, within seconds, blocking or letting them hit, i find myself with no armor.
and since the nr of foes is massive, there is no way to evade all blows for long.

got a mix of elven/glass + the fancy sleeveless cuirass from one of the daedra shrines, which is as good as glass, with some magic in addition.

is this how the game is supposed to work????????
???????

It must be...maybe try getting strong alteration so you can put shield up and strong armorer...Now I am wondering if I should level my guy up!

Most light armor has a chance to break much faster than a heavy armor, not to mention you're high level with lower level armor (Glass and Elven is like 10th to 15th level armor), so taking some powerful hits from a creature of your level with substantially weaker armor can have an impact.

Yep, levels 20-30 is the hardest time in the game imho because you're now fighting some of the toughest creatures in the game but your character is still on the learning curve. At lower levels you're fighting weaker opponents and above level 30 you keep getting tougher but the enemies don't. I'm not 100% sure but I think your skill level in light armour or heavy armour has an effect on how long it lasts when you take a hit (depending on what you're wearing). But since your skill in light armour is already 100, there's no room for improvement there. You can leave some of the tougher missions until later (like retaking Kvatch, which is a stone bitch at any level but near suicidal at level 20-30) and do some side missions to boost your skills and level up more. Alternatively you can take some repair hammers along and try to find a quiet corner to fix your gear between battles, but that's pretty much impossible when retaking Kvatch unless you leave the city, and then your allies are pretty much guaranteed to die.

Oh yeah, the previous suggestion about using shield spells or enchantments on your gear will also extend it's life, same goes for reflect damage spells & enchantments.

one other skill besides the designated armor skill being used, to keep 'em from degrading faster is that Armorer skill. Getting it to expert allows all armor to have 25+ over the standard 100 durability. And since light armor is 100 as he says, wearing all light should give 50% more defense.

@ Baron667 - Plus since you say your armor tends to get torn very quickly, that'll even speed up the armorer skill in lvls substantially. It's why I usually choose amorer as a major skill in *any* char I make.

good points, and i'm approaching 70 in armorer and start to glimpse 75 at some distance.

it is just hard to believe that particular battle is so unbalanced, and considering the 1st trip into olbivion, each of the gates will be of the same sort.

regular brown bears also bring all my wear to 30- within seconds too, and this means getting attacked by 2, will mean fighting the 2nd just naked, since block doesnt help to preserve armor (even if theorethically just the shield should get dmgd) :(

according to uespwiki, elven is 15-20, and glass is above that lvl.
however, roleplaying a sneaky chara means sticking to light all the way thru, and this is what i'll try to do.

perhaps lowering the difficulty bar will be needed, although i'd enjoy leaving it on medium no matter what, as far as my playing style is concerned :(

One problem with that is you will tend to level up too quickly for my liking. Plus I found myself avoiding running repairs just because I was afraid of getting that extra level. Needless to say, most of my battles were tough ones.

I believe it's only a problem with lvling up too fast if say you haven't found a way to 'control' the rate at which your armor degrades, thus choosing your fights throughout the game. For me, this is where Illusion (invisibility) plays a great role. No matter if you're wearing cloth or the heaviest metal armor, if you're a journeyman or better in Illusion; there's no way anyone can detect/attack you. At earlier lvls you wouldn't really need it, but it makes an awesome safety net in dire times.

But back on topic, depending on how you plan to handle 'most' of your fights would determine if you'd need Armorer at high lvls early or not at all. Personally I tend to mess around occasionally :D so as long as I can kill whatever comes at me, it doesn't hurt to lvl up slightly faster than average.

Let's stay focused, please. The subject in the thread is Baron667's, in the first post. If you have any questions about something else, here, either send a personal message to a person who has commented, or use our search function to find what you need. If you can't find your answer, then start a new thread. Don't take someone else's.

Umm, first off, please don't hijack someone else's thread, especially when you've already got one of your own with the SAME question. Secondly, "Demanding" anything is well out of your authority here and is rather rude to announce even.

If you don't want to receive infractions which can lead to a ban, I suggest you go over the forum rules, and please follow them.

Hopefully "I'm demanding" just means "I'm high-maintenance", not that the actual question was a demand to be answered. As they say, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Although why you would want to catch flies remains a mystery :)
