Malkavian Whispers

Hi!
I am under assumption that when you are playing with Malkavian, you are supposed to hear whispers. Well, i have finished the game twice with a Malk and heard no whispers what so ever.
First time i was playing with only official patch 1.2 and second time was with Wesp's 4.6.
After installing 4.8, to my big surprise i heard the whispers first time when talking to that suit guy next to Santa Monica Suites.
I'm now through Santa Monica and doing some Downtown quests, but no whispers have crossed my path after the first one.
So my question is: How often are you supposed to experience these sounds?

Not very often. If I remember correctly about 10 times during the whole game and only if you chose the right dialogue options.

Not sure when or where exactly, or if they were an idea that never got implemented properly as I've not really noticed them either except in 2 places, I believe. I've not used the unofficial patches much, though I do believe they should be properly activated by now.
I have found the sound files in the installation directory though, so more or less, can say that there are slightly over a dozen of them with the original installation...

Yeah, it's around 10 or so occasions throughout a (unpatched) game, but they are insanely quiet. The environmental sounds pretty much drown them out. They kick up quite a bit throughout the patches.

I think I heard them right through the regular NPC dialogue? I might be mistaken because in places like Chinatown there is a lot of background noise. They were totally inaudible. I think you need them when you have dialogue options in front of you. You think that's fixable? I wouldn't mind if it was possible to hear them a bit more often too. Maybe make whether you're insane enough to hear them depend on your dementation level.

No, and I already had problems to find fitting places for the ones I restored as they need to hint at something.

Actually, I would have preferred if they were more audible. If I had not stumbled upon them in the sound files directory, I would be pretty hard pressed to hear more than one...
and that was only because it was relatively quiet in the dinner!
They are
insanely soft alright... you really need to
crazy good hearing to pick them out if you have no idea when they might be coming. You need to be pretty sharp to hear them even when you do know when to expect them.
I still do not know what some of the full sentences are, despite having replayed them over and over and over... some words just elude my comprehension of them. Come to think of it... I think I'll try searching for a text script of them.

The whispers are always there, if you strain your ears to hear them. The voices lurk just out of sight, and they surface when you are faced with the stress of claustrophobia among the sewer rats, when you walk through the darkness of the faded house of respose, when you strive to enlighten the kine and much else - an unwary childe of Malkav may, however, miss a great many of them, but we have heard them and they are always there. They will never let you go...

Could you share the exact location and names of those files, please? There are like 11,000 sound files in those directories and, since I never play a Malkavian, would like listening to them at least once. Thanx m8!

Don't you hear whispers when you use the Dementation Discipline? Might just be different cause I've never heard any when not using Dementation

You hear whispers when you use Dementation, but those are generic whispers that accompany the discipline. The ones in discussion are specific to the area/scene in which the whispers hints at something that is about to or may happen in the area you are in, or person you're interacting with.
][_aVey,
I'm sorry I can't recall where exactly they are (what the fill directory path is) now, and I do not have access to the machine where my Bloodlines is installed at the moment. You can try searching for a directory called "whispers" under the installed main directory though. It should be there.

I personally can't find any directory titled whispers in any folder under the Activision folder in my Program Files. And searching "Whispers" doesn't get anything either...It's a puzzle, there's also this music in the Oceanhouse Hotel that I wasn't able to find in any of the music folders...

These files are packed in the pack0x.vpk files and can be extracted with the VPKTool which is included in the unofficial patches.

Just heard whispers playing my Female Malkavian! Heard them when I first got into Hollywood section and talked to the guy who tells you to go see Isaac
Loud and Clear with no difficulty hearing them either...
I've heard the Whispers 4 times Total.
First time with the guy who tells you to see Isaac when you first enter Hollywood.
Second Time Speaking to the Tzimisce (spelling?) Guy
Third Speaking to Wong Ho before going to Lotus Blossom
Fourth Speaking to Wong Ho After Rescuing his Daughter...
Also: Are there supposed to be whispers as well when you're not talking to anyone? I heard whispers in the Nosferatu Area of the Warrens or whatever, more faint than the ones heard during conversations and more constant....

More Whispers
Yes, I started to hear them a lot down in the Warrens.
I heard a little girl crying while talking to Imalia
I heard other voices just walking around in the warrens. They seem to be more audible in the warrens. Just turn up the volume and you can hear them.
One voice goes something like this: "(inaudible whisper)...Trust me..."
0.o
And I think some of the other voices said something about black darkness or something, I can't really tell. But they are there. And they're freaky as if you're not expecting it.

I usually play with the surround sound turned on so I don't think I ever had any problems hearing the whispers. Understanding them is a different thing all together. But I don't actually want to understand them, I like it that they're, well, whispers.

I don't think the voices you hear in the warrens are coming from inside your head, it's the nosferatus who are hiding and trying to trick you. You hear the voices no matter what clan your vampire belongs to.

Everybody hears those, they freak me out a little. I wonder what they're saying.
But as a Malkavian I haven't really heard whispers, I might start a new game as a Malk and see if I have more luck this time around. At what stage/area of the game are the whispers most prominent?

I heard most of my voices in Hollywood. The warrens you can hear them. I heard a girl crying while talking to Imalia. The voice definately wasn't there when I was playing as a Tremere the first time round. There's also some in Chinatown.

Than you for your concern, pal, I appreciate it. There is a "whispers" folder but it only has two versions of the same audio file of a child moaning. There's also another file named "whisper" and it says:
"What does the Prince has his little bitch doing today?", or something like that.
Checking the other audio folders I found that almost every character with whom you interact has his own, so my guess is that there are files of different whispers scattered in each one of these folders and they are only played when you're talking with that particular NPC.
But then again, as Werner said, if they're in the pack0x.vpk file, I'll try to check them out in the future.
