Getting ready to leave the Underdark and return to Athkatla to do all the stuff that I missed so I could go get Imoen. Since I don't know what I missed and if there's still a lot to do there, if you guys don't mind, I thought I would list what's in my quest journal that's complete and whats still active. I'm sorry it's long and if long post like this are not permitted, please let me know.

Completed Quest:
The Circus Tent
Boys mother in the tent
Riddle in the sewers
Free Hendak and the slaves
Locate caretaker for the little girl
Bring poisoned man to his friends
Solve the skinner murders
Rescued Viconia
Put Spirit child to rest
Found kidnappers who buried Tirdir
The de'Arnise Keep Quest
Collected Fee for Bayle
Aran's task to receive Shadow Thieves aid
After this I went to the Asylum to rescue Imoen

Active Quest in Journal:
Helping captive dryads
A Cult of the Eyeless
Animal trouble in Trademeet
Find out what happened to Montaron
Investigate and destroy the Cult of the Eyeless
Investigate deaths in Umar Hills
Meeting with Valen's mistress
Ruling the de'Arnise

Ok, that out of the way, here's my questions. :o

1. Are there more quest then the ones I've done and the ones in my log. Please don't tell me what and where, just if there are more I need to look for.

2. Is there any one place in Athkatla that I need to avoid so that I don't start Chapter 6 Stuff until I finish all the side quest.

Thank you guys so very much. :)

1) Definitely more remain to be discovered. I can think of at least two quests in Athkatla, and another pair elsewhere.

1. Oh yes. Plenty more all over the place really. And some are not even really entered into the Journal.

2. There's really nothing wrong with getting into the next chapter except the journal entry getting difficult to read (at least I find it so). So don't worry too much about it. It's pretty obvious where and what you will be doing to trigger the final events in the game, so I think you're OK as long as you do not push too far pursuing the main plot line.

 Here I'm confused.
Spoiler
Isn't the Underdark AFTER the great Imoen rescue? How did you get here and not get Imoen already??
Or is my memory going that far already???

I have Imoen in my party now. After rescuing her from Spellhold, I ended up in Sahuagin city and then the Underdark. Sorry if I was unclear in what I wrote. :o

Yes, there are many more quests you need to look for, including three of the biggest sidequests in the game.

Just to give you some general advice, you should talk to people (especially the ones who say, "I have an offer if you wish to hear it") and enter every building that has a door. Watch out for traps and unfriendly people who don't like you invading their personal space. There isn't as much pointless, random stuff in BG2 as there was in BG1, so it will be worth your time. By the same token, there are a lot more "big surprises" in BG2 than there were in BG1. Remember those kobold commandos who shot fire arrows at you? Well, some of the random stuff you'll meet in Athkatla might be almost as much fun. :)

Actually, you'll be in Chapter Six as soon as you emerge from the Underdark. There's only one mission related to the main plot in Chapter Six, and it's a very simple matter to figure out where to go for it (but I didn't say it would be easy). So don't go there until you're ready to finish Chapter Six and start Chapter Seven.

Here is some clarification about the active quests in your journal:

Helping captive dryads - You need to take their acorns back to their homeland. It's not exactly obvious where to find it, so just keep an eye out during your outdoor travels.

Investigate and destroy the Cult of the Eyeless - You are supposed to follow a cult member to start the investigation. You saw where he went, right?

A Cult of the Eyeless - See above.

Animal trouble in Trademeet - Trademeet is marked on your map.

Find out what happened to Montaron - Xzar told you that Harpers were involved, right? It's part of Jaheira's subquest, so you should complete that quest as soon as you can. If you're romancing Jaheira, also keep in mind that she doesn't like cities--which means that if you want her to talk to you, then you need to spend a lot of time out in the wilderness. While you're in the Docks District, see if you can talk to Renal Bloodscalp like Yoshimo asked you to (I've never waited until Chapter Six to do that, so I'm not sure if it makes any difference).

Investigate deaths in Umar Hills - Umar Hills is marked on your map.

Meeting with Valen's mistress - It's too late for that, so disregard that journal entry.

Ruling the de'Arnise Keep - This is your stronghold, and it will keep you occupied for up to 30 days of game time, so that is one reason not to rush into Chapter Seven. While you're waiting for messengers to give you quest information, you should find useful things to do with your time. :)

Thanks everyone for all the input. I'm glad to see there is still a lot of things to find to do in Athkatla, because I'm having so much fun playing this game :D

VonDondu, Does the "Find out what happened to Montaron" officially (so to speak) start the romance with Jaheira or has it already started and I just have not realized it?

Thanks again everyone.

well im not vondondu but let me answer this question.

the game has a quite nice flow of interactions and relationships,
its not simply like
chatting with one and then someone will say, hey i love you want to have a date?
with time the banters will change and the topics will become more personal,
but to further involve some key triggers must take place, eg those harpner meetings you heard about in the case of jaheira.

to your early questions, you got a LOAD of quests in front of you,
depending how you count 4 up to 7 BIG quests and a full load of mini quests as well
but dont bother if you do not make EVERY quest there is, i played the game for YEARS and did not discover "every" quest until i read through this forum/page

and to further add i like to do alot of quests but i never did ALL quests in the game in one run through, i tried severel times but after i finished the game they were constantly popping up possible quests which i did not do so dont bother ;)

and since you are back at Athkatla you will not "leave" until TOB ;)
even in chapter 8 you will be able to travel back to every place except brynnlaw, spellhood, city of caverns and the underdark

Sorry, You know I appreciate everyone ones help. I addressed it to vondondu because I had just finished reading her post and thought she might still be on the forum. Man I hope I'm right about the "she" part. Sometimes you can't tell by the avatar:speech:

Anyway, thanks. I'm just glad there's still a lot of stuff to do. I'm a 60 year old kid in a candy store :D

The Montaron/Xzar quest is not directly related to the romance with Jaheira. It's hard to explain, but there are events involving Harpers that take place whether you are romancing Jaheira or not. I guess you could say that the romance with Jaheira runs concurrently with the non-romantic parts of the Harper subplot. Since timers and global variables are involved, I think you should finish the Xzar/Montaron quest as soon as you can.

All of the romances begin automatically if your character is the appropriate race and gender. Basically, all that happens is that Jaheira will talk to your character over the course of time, and depending on your responses, the dialogues will become more and more "romantic". You can end the romance by telling her you're not interested or by saying something that offends her; otherwise, she will automatically fall in love with your character. That's the way the script works. Things get sort of interesting if more than one potential romantic partner is in your party.

Jaheira's first "personal" conversation with you took place when you first approached the Copper Coronet. She made a snide remark that began with, "Where to now, fearless leader?" and then she proceeded to apologize and promise to be more civil if you would do the same. There's a merchant in the Docks District who will volunteer to make a special gift for her if he sees the two of you together--he senses that there is love in the air. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether a dialogue is part of the romance or part of the non-romantic Harper subplot, but you need to let it all take place "naturally" instead of worrying about it and "meta-gaming" if you want to get the most out of it. Even without the romance, the Harper subplot is interesting.

Thanks, that helps put in the right perspective so I better understand this romance thing. To be very honest, I did not fully understand it, and did not know what to expect.

It being a game, I figured it would be limited in content. In fact I was very surprised at the conversation with Phaere and her advances. Don't know where it goes because I turned her down :angel :( did not want to upset Jaheira).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude, I've been around for a while, but being new to games, I guess I was just surprised. Makes sense though, it's all part of life, so why not include it in a game.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain it. :)
