Hey all!

I've got a problem I seem unable to solve, please help! I'm under the Temple District, in the Illithid area (well, Illithid, Ulitharid, Mind Flayer, whatever) and I managed to clear one room but no more. There's one with like 4 Uiltharids and 4 Mind Flayers and an Umber Hulk - my party gets wiped before we can even whack them!

The Hulk and the Flayers are at least somewhat vulnerable to magic, but with the Ulitharid I'm at a complete loss. I die instantly and I have no idea why! I had Death Ward on, but it didn't make a difference, everyone was killed one by one, Ward or not.

Any idea what works on them? There's simply no time to sharp swords on them - by the time we kill one with brute force, they have already sent 3 of us into oblivion.

Illithids are some of the toughest opponents you'll fight in the game. You'll need to experiment with differing strategies to defeat them. Expecting to charge them and melee them to death won't work. Commonly, they'll use charm, confusion, and various other nastiness. You might try summoning lots of monsters and using them as a front lines. Utilize your mages to their fullest with high damage/group spells.Similarly, you might try and draw them out one at a time with stealthier tactics.

And do a search under mindflayers. You'll find a couple of dozen strategies for taking them out. Use search before posting. That way, it won't lead to closed threads, because the site owner doesn't want them duplicating content already in our forum database. (He says they slow the board down.)
