Baldurdash - Weidu

Ok, I'm confused. I thought I needed the BG2Fixpack, and nothing on that page suggests that I shouldn't download it, but Weidu's Baldurdash has been uploaded or reuploaded (I can't tell!) as recently as 2008. Which pack do I need?

As far as I understand it, you simply need to chose one or the other. I think the 2008 Baldurdash is simply a conversion of it into the Weidu format. I do not believe it has seen substantial updates in some time. Wheras the BG2 Fix Pack is more frequently updated and incorporates the fixes from Baldurdash. I went with it in my most recent installation.

Frequently updated as in once every two years? I don't know. At least the other one was done a month ago, unless someone just re-uploaded it. Confusing.

The old Baldurdash bug fixes have not been updated since 2005.
Baldurdash-WeiDU is made by a different group of people who have incorporated all of the original Baldurdash fixes and added hundreds more. From what I can tell, it was designed to work with the mods called The Never Ending Journey and Tortured Souls. Among other things, it makes items and spells match their descriptions (for example, if a spell is supposed to bypass magic resistance, they make it do so) and it corrects minor mistakes (such as misspelled names) in many scripts.
Just because a program has been updated recently, that doesn't mean it is any "better" than alternative programs. Sometimes newer programs have undetected bugs and compatibility issues, and sometimes older programs are simply much better.
Personally, I use the old Baldurdash fixpack, for two reasons. First of all, there are no compatibility problems with any of the other mods I use. (If I chose to install The Never Ending Journey and/or Tortured Souls, then I would probably choose Baldurdash-WeiDU instead.) Second of all, I don't like fixpacks that make arbitrary decisions about "grey areas" without giving you the choice not to install those particular "fixes" which might better be described as "mods". Besides, some of the fixes are so obscure, I don't think they're all that important, and it's always best to keep the changes to a minimum. That's just my personal preference, of course.
