I am trying to build a character that will have good AC. But i am stuck

which one would give a higher AC: a typical dexterity based build or a typical armoured with full plate and tower shield build?

Overall there is no set answer.
Armor class - NWNWiki, the Neverwinter Nights wiki
IMO though, a high dexterity character will often have a higher AC with various equipment and one single high Dexterity modifying equipment.
The thing is - usually you won't have a high dexterity character until late in a game, whereas you can have a good AC level fairly early in the game via armor.
Also a high dexterity character can also use shields (if they have access to a particular shield)
So typical net response:
Armored characters early to mid through the game have higher AC's.
High Dexterity Characters *can* surpass them toward the end of the game.

thanks for the reply

,i ll go for my strength build with full plate and tower shield for the official campaign and then in MotB i ll try out my dexterity build (a rogue build or dex monk). hehe although i m sure that later on i ll replay the game with both characters and the other builds i scribbled on paper xD.

Perhaps consider then:
Bard 5/RDD10/Dwarven Defender/10 (your last 5 levels you can choose another class Preferably a Frenzied Berserker 5, but it will require an alignment change.) Race: Gold Dwarf.
The Bard has the skills you'll need for the OC (though choose the feat Able Learner either at the beginning or at 4th level). It also has a bonus to AC at 5th level.
The RDD will not only give you high strength (and other stat bonuses), but also AC bonuses and more hitpoints.
The Dwarven Defender will also provide you with (stackable) damage reduction, more hitpoints, and again AC bonuses.
The net AC *bonus* is:
Bard Inspire Courage = +2
RDD Draconic Armor = +4
DD Improved Defense = +4
Total = +10

Throw in some PM perhaps for the last 5 levels and get higher bard casting ability and PM AC bonus...Definitely take Luck of Heroes feat. The PM isn't the strongest class but you will improve the bard casting level to 8 which will make your extended displacements even more valuable then all that AC.
Actually thinking more about this take bard 15 which will give you +2 more from inspiration of defense and also grant the heroism song which you can use to give great AC. Also more skill points for tumble. Also rockin curse song for a great debuff including a penalty to attackers AB and damage and spells.
Now take RDD 10 because that is just insane.
the other 5 levels is your choice. Either 5 DD (you can still get DR via epic feats since dwarf plus RDD = high con). Or bard 16 Pale Master 1 (for +2 AC) DD 3 (still some AC and you get the BAB for 5 attacks). Thats worth level 6 bard spells even at charisma 16 and no cha item.
