Looking for SF RPG/Tactical Teambased Combat

So, having had enough of your standard fantasy for a while, I'm looking to play something SF/Current Time.
I already played Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics, and I'm afraid I'm going to have an overdose if I complete them yet again. (If getting too much Fallout could be possible.)
I also have played Jagged Alliance 2.
I'm currently playing Hellgate, but I'm looking for something more in-depth.
Has anybody got any suggestions? I know Jagged Alliance isn't really an RPG, but it has many RPG-elements, so that's why I posted here.
Thanks in advance!

Hm. Not much comes to mind at the moment (kudos to Jim Beam), but have you considered Vampire The Masquerade: Redemption? It's half current time, half medieval time. Very little depth in story and dialogue, but it's a heavy tactical / team-based game and one tough cookie to finish. Gets a little repetitive though, you may not want to give it more than one spin.

I played Redemption already, but never finished it. Combat gets too tedious after a while. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Were the Syndicate series team based? I don't remember. They would sort of meet your other criteria. Syndicate Wars in particular had a pretty good story. I'm not confident if you can still find a copy though. Much less if it will run on XP or Vista.

I haven't even heard of this game. I'm not afraid to tinker around to get it working, though. I'll head out to the underdogs immediatly. Thanks!

If you liked Fallout Tactics, then I'd recommend Silent Storm. It's a WW2 era tactical strategy game.

Hhhmmm... I once tried that demo, but I wasn't overly impressed. I'll give it a second chance.

Yes, it is a team-based game. Played it at a friend's house a long time ago. Didn't know Peter Molyneux created this game until I read an article about him 2 years ago.
Anyway, what about the Commandoes series? I heard that they were pretty decent (except the 3rd one).

First and second ones from Commandoes series are very good ones. Though those doesn't have even slightest element of RPG on them.
Also, if you by some miracle happen to find it, Incubation could also be good choice. It's old, probably requires DOSBox to work, and it's very rare today. I've seen it couple of times in EBay and Amazon during last year, so it's possible to find it somewhere.

Oops. Didn't know that. My mistake.

Yes, I thought about Commandoes as well, but I'm really all for the "Grow and learn" thingie.
On a side note: I do like the Silent Storm Demo. One gripe: the enemy's turn takes ages to complete.

Are you looking for PC titles only?
The GBA, PSP and several emulators from the now extinct consoles have simply awesome team based RPGs.

I play emulators as well, but I hope that with "team-based RPG", you are not referring to Final Fantasy. It's just not this kind of game.

No, tbh I didnt really like FF games past the SNES version.
I was thinking more along the lines of Shining Force I and II. Lots of hidden characters and they all have a 'personality' which I enjoy and almost NEED in a good team RPG. I remember spending DAYS leveling up Bleu so he could be a powerhouse right from the start. It is dated, no doubt, but a strong game no contest. The Fire Emblem series are good as well, though I have played far fewer than I was aware even existed.
What I like in a team based RPG more than anything is a single player who I represent and then predefined personalities who travel with me.
I will never forget Gong, Bleu, Gort, Dogmeat, Cassidy, Marcus(why won't he learn to not shoot Dogmeat?!), Vaconia(spelling?), Minsc & BOO! Go for the EYES Boo!
I could go on and on, I spent 2 hours the other day talking with some friends about our experiences with Fallout and Baldur's Gate (they were Nintendo kids and missed out on Shining Force).

I'll check out Shining Force I & II then. I never heard of them. Thanks for the suggestion and excuse my initial scepticism.
