"Unable to Set Mode"

OK, i'm not a noob in this game... and, so far, the only glitch i cross with was with the Leopold Bug... (not very much a problem since Patch 1.2)
Until yesterday...
I decided to install the game again, due to the new 5.1 Patch. Everything smooth till the end of the tutorial, when i get to my haven in SM, and just before i talk with the old bum outside, the game crashes and when i try to play again, show this freakin message "Unable to Set Mode"...
Uninstalled, re-installed again, without the 5.1... and nothing... Uninstalled and Re-installed again without even the 1.2.. and nothing...
I'm pretty sure it's a common bug, but i can find a fix in any forum...
Help would be a hand
