Well, I have this smal problem and I wonder if you have the same.
Ive been struck by the mmorpg sickness, and even if I try hard there is no way I can cure myself.
In great games like Baldur's Gate, Morrowind, Oblivion, and so on, its the journey that is the goal in many ways,
If you understand what I try to express.
But in games like wow its the end that matter, what gear you got there or how mutch gold you can get from that.
Not so mutch the journey towards these things, because that travel is often fairly boring and often dont give you mutch satisfaction, doing the same thing again and again.
So, how can an oldschool player get that feeling back?
The feeling of the journey and the feeling of the moment, without the "all watching eye" to the future and "how powerfull I will become then".
Anyone have an idea?
// With warm greetings

Aye, I understand what's troubling you. I'm afraid there is no other cure but quitting WoW (and other MMORPGs that hold your interest).
I agree with you - singleplayer RPGs have a soothing, adventurous touch to them. It's hard to get rid of that feeling of rush you're infected with when you're playing a MMORPG. Human mind is much like the body, very adaptable. Put it in a powergaming environment for some time and soon it will forget why the other games were interesting in the first place.
However, as I've seen with my own eyes, if you force yourself not to play any MMORPGs and switch to a less time-consuming game, soon you will get used to it just like you did to the afore mentioned. There, problem solved.

Have to agree here, as I have personal experience on this.
Couple of months ago I played WoW, was quite hooked on it. Then my budget disallowed me to spend money on that (had to buy car, bass + stuff related to that, etc.), so I was kinda forced to quit. Now, I don't miss playing WoW that much.
