Should Keldorn be in this group?

I've decided to try a small party out that looks like this:

Halfling F/T protagonist
Jaheira
Aerie

I've got a thief, mage, cleric, and druid.

I'm trying to decide if another tank would fit nicely. I was thinking Keldorn.

Am I better off with just 3 or should I add him in there?

TIA

Well that depends on how well you can tank with Jaheira/Aerie (that is a matter of personal taste). If you can tank with either of them I wouldn't include him, if you don't have the patience for it then I would.

All three of your characters are more than capable of handling the tank role. If anything, Keldorn would be the weakest one here.

If anything, you're lacking arcane casters. But yes, Keldorn suits pretty much every powergaming group there is.

Jahiera is more than capable to fit the role of a tank with a good AC and later on, a 65% resistance to physical damage as well as Iron Skins.

Aerie is even better suited through the Greater Wolfwere. Even if you don't like using multiple Tensor's, spell trigger several spells, most important one being Improved Haste, and watch her go. With the buff, she has a 16 hitpoint per second regeneration rate.

Your fighter/thief, again, as I stated in the other thread, entitled to that nice resistance bonus and a good AC, if you have Aerie cast Spirit Armor on him.

I do use Jah as a tank sometimes, but Keldorn armed with Carsomyr (or Ravager +6) is seriously helpful - you also get his dispel magic, which is extremely useful AND true sight. I usually give him summon devas as his HLA plus the usual fighter ones. hitting with Carsomyr de-buffs enemies and it is +5/+6 so isn't easily avoided. The Ravager option gets Vorpal hits, which is good except against end-bosses who are immune to vorpal effects.

I'd say that Keldorn, Sir Anomen and Jaheira were all good tanks - I prefer to use Aeirie in more of a flexible role - using casting to summon allies and protecting the party - she de-buffs from distance, Kedlorn de-buffs toe-to-toe.

I decided against adding Keldorn.

I played for a few hours, and then got really bored. :(

What a way to end an adventure. :D

Had you continued playing, what's your personal opinion and why?

What's my opinion on what?

If it's not using Keldorn, I just decided I'm better off without this old fart dragging my multiclassed group down. Jaheira and the protagonist are great as tanks, and since they'll both dual-wield, I can come up with some fun combos. With Keldorn, I'm aiming for Carsomyr, and that's it.

boring old fart?

you'll miss his true seeing and dispel magic when you get further.

if you don't like a +5/+6 sword that de-buffs, I suggest you go for Ravager +6 with Vorpal capabilities.

your loss!

Here we go again: another rag-on-Keldorn session. :D I don't think the parties on either side are going to change. Personally, I think he's great in SoA, where, as Celacena and I have both said before, he's got the sword, True Seeing, and Dispel. In ToB, I think the want of weapons skill is more telling. But really--Carsomyr isn't good enough in SoA?

For RPG purposes, I think Keldorn is fun in a neutral party, where Jan drives him up a wall. He doesn't work out in an evil party, and he just makes a good one far too sanctimonious for most characters I run. Your mileage may vary.

Keldorn is an old man who wants to go home.
He's great fighter.. But let the poor bastard get home and roger his wife.
And then relax with feet up . He deserves it.

Try again
