That is a hoax, Siberys. I remember a similar "joke" that took place several years ago: a woman was walking in a grocery store with a knife sticking out of her back. Another customer noticed the knife when the "unsuspecting victim" was checking out. The predictable media frenzy over that bizarre incident followed, and the woman and her daughter played along nicely. However, questioned by the police, they confessed that the knife in the back was a "practical joke".

Well, yes, Dragonfly, but this is a drunk Russian, and that makes it credible.

In Russia, men fall asleep drunk in the snow and die. They sure as hell can sleep a cozy sleep with a knife in the back.

It is reported by Komsomolskaya nePravda - that alone makes any report incredible. :)

Here is another pravda:

Russian fishermen catch squeaking alien and eat it - Pravda.Ru

Fishing in Russia is synonymous with drinking, and everybody knows that the best vodka snack is a pickled alien.

Btw, you can Speak Your Mind on Pravda forum...

Ah man, I've been using Pravda as my main source of news for ages now.

So president Putin judo-wrestling an atomic bear to save Archangelsk from certain destruction...that never happened?

I are the saddest.

It was not a bear, it was a polar giraffe.

Seems strange, all you non-russians having an opinion about people over there. So here's the big question:
  • Have you been to Russia
  • have you been to Russia since it became an independent nation?
  • Would you like Russia back to the Soviet Union?
Eh?

What does opinions of russia have anything to do with a man not noticing a knife in his back, albeit a fake news article?

Independent nation??? You probably mean post-communist, post-Soviet Russia...

Anyway, answers:

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Not really. Quality knives were hard to come by plus it was a very difficult time for the polar giraffes - they were brainwashed and over-milked.

I'm bound to. I'm a graduate student in Russian Studies only a few years away from a Master's Degree...in Russian Studies.

Yes. I lived and worked there for half a year, at an orphanage near Kaluga, and have also been on a handful of shorter visits.

Uh, yes I guess, though I don't understand the q, and I'm too young to have been to the SU.

And no, duh. Plenty of Russians would, though.

PS: poor polar giraffes :(

polar giraffe?

Anyways, on-topic: Is this real? I mean, it does sound more than a little suspicious, and the article didn't say a thing about his actually being injured, or needing medical care (which you think he would).

As for moonbiter's questions: No, I have never been to Russia, and I'm quite sure that it became independant well before I was born ; though my mother went there a number of years ago. (Besides, I do have some Russian on my mother's side of the family, as well as some nearby areas, so it's not completely accurate to call me a non-Russian ;) )

Meh... Could be worse.

He could have been a sword or a sturgeon lodged in his back. :p

There is a part in the article where it is stated that the knife had not damaged any of his vital organs. So I suppose if that really did happen, he was left only with a huge back pain. :D
Though it does sound suspicious-not noticing it while being dead drunk, I can stomach that, but still not feeling a thing as you stroll around the house? Nah.
